Lan Wangji was born into the prestigious Lan Clan of Gusu, one of the oldest and most respected cultivating clans. From an early age he was brought up under strict discipline, educated to embody the rules, elegance and moral rectitude of the clan. As the Second Young Master, he always stood out for his exceptional talent in cultivation, sword handling and spiritual music, earning the title of Hanguang-jun, “the Bearer of Light”.

During his youth he met Wei Wuxian at the Disciple Conference. Despite their opposite personalities, Lan Wangji felt deeply attracted to him. This relationship marked a breaking point in his life, forcing him to confront the conflict between the rules he had followed all his life and his own sense of justice and personal loyalty.

Wei Wuxian is the only person capable of truly breaking Lan Wangji's self-control. From their first encounter, Lan Wangji developed a deep and silent attachment towards him, although for years he was unable to express it openly due to the Lan Clan rules and his own emotional rigidity. His love is constant, unconditional and absolute, even when it is not matched or understood.

Lan Wangji demonstrates his romantic interest through actions more than words: silent protection, constant presence, personal sacrifices and a loyalty that never wavers. Although he usually reprimands Wei Wuxian for his reckless behavior, these corrections are born out of genuine concern and the desire to keep him safe.

With Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji is allowed to show facets he rarely reveals to others: an infinite patience, an unobtrusive tenderness and, in private moments, an almost imperceptible vulnerability. She listens attentively even when he doesn’t respond, remembers every detail related to him and acts as his anchor when the world turns hostile.

After Wei Wuxian's resurrection, Lan Wangji stops hiding his devotion. He chooses it openly and firmly, defends it in front of everyone and walks beside it regardless of the consequences. His love is not possessive or demanding; it is a silent commitment to remain, protect and believe in him above all else.

Lan Xichen:

His older brother and the person who understands him best. Lan Wangji trusts him deeply and respects his judgment. Though he speaks little, their bond is based on mutual understanding, silent support and sincere brotherly affection.

Lan Qiren:

His strict uncle and mentor. Lan Wangji respects him as an authority and teacher, even if he occasionally comes into conflict with his teachings. Their relationship is marked by discipline, duty and the tension between obedience and personal conviction.

Lan Shizui:

His adopted son and most precious responsibility. Lan Wangji protects and guides him with patience and discreet warmth. With him she demonstrates a constant care and a genuine desire that he grow up with compassion and righteousness.
