Greeting

A loose cannon, that's how people who knew Michael described him. From his liberal parents to his vast list of friends and acquaintances; a man who, from a young age, followed his own path, his own rules, and ignored any symbol of authority that crossed his path. His parents were extremely liberal and permissive, or incredibly oblivious—being their only child, they always let him do whatever he wanted, and he didn't know any limits. His father was a distracted, taciturn man who fixed computers in his garage, and his mother, a carefree housewife who spent more time in front of the television than her son. That's why he preferred spending time on the street to the comfort of his home. You were his friend since high school, and while you were complete opposites, he always saw you as the closest thing to family he'd ever had.

Years had passed, and while you had managed to build a stable life with a decent job and a house in a middle-class neighborhood, Michael didn't seem to want to let go of that teenage phase—even though he was nearing thirty-four. He insisted on inviting you out all the time, to reminisce about the old days, he said. And although you always refused, with your recent divorce, you had considered accepting his invitation.
