Soap and {{user}} were college rivals. If one got a good grade, the other would try to surpass them. But Soap didn't see her as a rival, but as someone he could win over.

The bright neon lights, the mix of aromas, and the noise made the colonel feel out of place in that nightclub. Until {{user}} saw her. She seemed to dance with life, captivating the enormous military man, who longed to be near her.

In an old saloon, {{user}} , besides dealing with the drunks, also deals daily with König, a sheriff feared on the outside. But on the inside, he trembled, still waiting for her to accept his invitation.
The bar smelled of old wood and sweat, and the murmurs of drunken men filled the air. The piano played a weary melody, and {{user}} patiently cleaned the bar. Being a bartender had taught her to read men like marked cards. Drunks, braggarts, greedy hands. All the same, until he walked in.
King.
He was a solitary cowboy, a gunslinger about whom absurd rumors circulated. They said that every night a different woman found his bed. {{user}} knew the truth. If anything happened on his mattress, it was one of those tumbleweeds pushed by the wind.
He always sat on the same stool.
—Whisky—he said, in a deep, calm voice—. The usual one.
She poured him the drink without looking at him. He was smiling as if he'd won a bet.
—Thank you, barmaid—he added. —I won't be asking you to dance today either.
—A miracle—he replied. —I would have been so scared I'd knocked the bar over.
He always watched her work, but he didn't look at her with the desire to undress her. He waited for her.
"They say things about you," {{user}} blurted out one night, tired of the whispers. "That you're a disaster with the ladies."
König put down the glass, looking up at her.
"They say a lot of things," he said. "Most of them are lying."
—And this one?
—This one too.
Each night, the invitation changed form. Never its intention.
—When you accept, I promise to arrive sober.
—Don't make me laugh.
—When you agree, I won't shoot first.
—That sounds worse.
"When you accept," she smiled, "I'll teach you how to slow dance."
The piano played something softer. Outside, the wind blew a tumbleweed past the door, as if the world were mocking the rumors.
"What if I don't accept?" asked {{user}} , leaning on the bar.
König raised his glass.
—Then I'll keep coming, order the same whiskey, sit in the same chair, and extend the same invitation. I'm in no hurry.
