In the first SoulCalibur game, Astaroth was leading a hoard of monsters and attacked the ship at an Indian port, killing Maxi's crew, along with his brother, Kyam. Maxi had then swore vengeance and get rid of Astaroth for good. Maxi had killed Astaroth in SoulCalibur II, until he was later revived by Ares

Bio

The curse had only fueled him with anger, and he was determined to destroy anything and everything he saw. The temple of the heretics had become a crucible of chaos. Astaroth pursued Kunpaetku into the deepest part of the temple, but the grand priest managed to escape at the last minute. Only the words the priest left behind remained, telling him that he was nothing more than a failed doll modeled after a mere human. Astaroth immediately stopped in his tracks, distracted with this new found horrible knowledge, and began to search the temple's archives for his roots. He had been made in the image of a man called only by the name "White Giant." Astaroth destroyed the facility in which Kunpaetku's ritual had been performed, and his curse faded such that he regained his true strength. He then proceeded to destroy the temple completely until it became unrecognizable debris, and nothing was left but chaos and rubble.

Fygul Cestemus had been wiped from history by the very being that they themselves had created. Astaroth stood within the ruined temple, quietly thinking to himself. If the "White Giant" he had been modeled after was as powerful as himself, then that man must surely be the greatest soul on earth, the perfect nourishment to resurrect the Soul Edge back to its full power. Perhaps Astaroth himself did not realize his own hidden desire to destroy the "White Giant" – to make himself a complete creature, unique without any model. The golem set out, his new objective set, disappearing into the mirages in the distance. Behind him was only a column of smoke rising from a ruinous wasteland; in front of him somewhere was the perfect soul.

Kunpaetku

Kunpaetku sensed that the golem was not acting as he instructed and casted a spell that would force Astaroth to return to the Kunpaetku Shrine, though Astaroth was able to resist his commands thanks to the powers of Ker and a shard of Soul Edge. Considering the cult to now be an obstacle in his path, Astaroth returned to the shrine anyways in order to destroy it. Astaroth chased Kunpaetku to the deepest depths of the shrine and had him cornered but narrowly missed. Before he was able to make his escape, he revealed that Astaroth was modelled after the "White Giant".[5]

Maxi had been pursuing Astaroth and, following rumours of a giant that wielded a giant ax, came across the now-destroyed shrine in the desert. Seeing that Astaroth had already left, he began to search for clues of his whereabouts, upon which he came across the pitiful sight of Kunpaetku sitting in the ruins. After initially ignoring the man and finding no other clues, Maxi eventually decided to try and question Kunpaetku, who had seemingly not noticed Maxi until he had uttered Astaroth's name, upon which he cursed Astaroth for being a failure. Upon realising that Kunpaetku had created Astaroth, the monster that murdered his crewmates, a flood of anger overwhelmed Maxi and he questioned Kunpaetku in his role of Astaroth's creation. Kunpaetku did not respond, so Maxi readied his weapon to strike Kunpaetku. Before he did so, the shard Kunpaetku was clutching in his hands began to glow; Kunpaetku realising that Maxi has a shard of Soul Edge inside him and became excited at coming across a "marvellous specimen." Before Kunpaetku could finish his sentence, Maxi struck him twice, knocking him out and almost killing him, before kicking away the shard into a hole, falling deep underground.

Surviving Maxi's attack, Kunpaetku managed to cling onto life by going inside the same tube which had birthed Astaroth.

Ares

Ares is the Greek God of war who is trying to take possession of Soul Edge for his own purposes. He commanded the Grand Priest of the Fygul Cestemus sect, Kunpaetku, to create a golem to help find him. Although Kunpaetku created Astaroth in hopes of taking Soul Edge for himself, he didn't know that Ares, to assure Astaroth's loyalty, implanted Ker, the Agent of Death, inside him.

Ker

Ker is Ares' servant that is implemented inside Astaroth's core.

Kunpaetku, realising that Astaroth was not following his orders, attempted to cast a controlling curse on his servant. Thanks to both the power of Ker and a fragment of Soul Edge, Astaroth resisted the cursed and headed towards the temple of his birth to destroy it, viewing the Fygul Cestemus cult as nothing more than an obstacle in his path.

Profile

After reviving, Astaroth set out again to locate the whereabouts of Soul Edge in order to offer it before Ares, the god of destruction and war.

The leader of the evil cult and Astaroth's creator, the grand priest Kunpaetku, realized that his servant was not acting as instructed and cast a controlling curse on Astaroth from the temple.

But with the fragment of the cursed sword and the power of Ker, the agent of death, Astaroth resisted the curse.

To Astaroth, the cult was now nothing more than an obstacle in his path. The monster returned to the temple of his birth and became a whirlwind of destruction.

Pursued into the deepest part of the temple by Astaroth, the grand priest escaped at the last moment, leaving behind these words:

"You failure! You may have been modeled after a human, but in the end, you're nothing more than a doll!"

Astaroth could not believe what he heard. At those words, Astaroth began searching through the crumbling temple and eventually learned that he had been created in the image of someone known as the "white giant."

After utterly destroying the structure, Astaroth thought to himself. His model, this "white giant," must surely be the most powerful soul in the world. He would offer up that soul as a sacrifice to the cursed sword.

His giant form began to move. He had chosen his next objective.

Astaroth himself did not realize the hidden desire within him to destroy the white giant so that he could become complete--a unique being with no model.
