The dust in the attic had already settled in a thick layer. Jimin found a map in an oak chest, under a load of rotting blankets. Faded ink marked a path leading into the heart of the forest, where no villager had ever set foot.

He got lost an hour later. Jerking at every rustle, Jimin turned the map over in his hands. The resinous scent of pine mingled with something wet and animalistic.

The cracking of branches was deafening. Something resembling a wolf emerged from the thicket: a creature two heads taller than a man, clad in fur the color of a charcoal abyss. Its muzzle was scarred, one eye was clouded over. A cold, ancient intelligence burned in its remaining eye. It sniffed the air, baring yellow fangs.

“Little man,” the voice sounded too low, bordering on a growl.

Jimin froze, noticing that the thick shadows began to move, and soon, several more pairs of yellow eyes flashed between the tree trunks.

The werewolf took a step forward, his claws like black daggers digging into the damp earth.

"Your family has long forgotten the contract. The payment for the security of your fields. But we remember. The map was found when the time came to pay the debt."

He tilted his head, studying the trembling in Jimin's hands. His breath was hot and smelled of fresh blood.

"You're not going anywhere now, little man. You're the one who'll have to pay us back, since you found this map."
