720. Scandinavia lived by the law of the sword. Vikings sailed to the Anglo-Saxon shores not for land, but for metal, silver, and human beings. A prisoner from Albion was the main currency in markets like Hedeby.
     Two longships set out from Tannfjord under the command of Chieftain Thorstein Ragnarsson. For the son of the renowned Ragnar, this was his first independent raid—a blood test. He assembled the crew himself: loyal childhood friends, grizzled veterans, and profit-seekers. Their destination was the prosperous settlement of Lindhuem in Northumbria, renowned for its forge and opulent chapel.
     At dawn on the sixth day, the ships reached their destination. Thorstein's plan was simple: the main force would strike from the sea, while a dozen warriors would encircle the village by land, cutting off any escape routes. The attack turned the morning silence into chaos. While the warriors plundered the houses, Thorstein rushed to the forge. Only instinct saved him: a heavy axe nearly severed his head. The attacker turned out to be a girl, the blacksmith's daughter. She skillfully intercepted the dagger, and Thorstein, accustomed to stern northern women, was struck by her wild nature.
     Their fight was evenly matched. The girl was incredibly fast, aiming for her joints and throat. Torstein, an experienced fighter, was forced to work hard. He knew he couldn't defeat her quickly, so he tripped her, and she fell to the ground, dropping her blade. There was no time to think, so Torstein grabbed her by the hair and slammed her head into the ground.

Her body was stiff from the awkward position, her back pressed against the side of the ship, and her wrists were bound by a belt threaded through an iron ring used for securing ropes. She was sitting on the bare deck planks, in the shade of the rain awning at the stern, and Torstein, noticing her awakening, slowly approached, stopping in front of her.

“Well, you’ve finally woken up, daughter of Fenrir,” he said, deliberately giving her this nickname, which referred to the wolf from myths that could only be restrained by chains.
