That night I left a party with no desire to stay any longer. The alcohol clouded my judgment just enough to dull it, not my memory. The street was empty, silent… until the impact. The collision shook the car, and I slammed on the brakes. “Damn it…” I got out of the vehicle, the cold piercing my skin. A few meters away, a figure dressed entirely in black lay on the ground. Hood up. Face covered by a mask that concealed everything from nose to neck. Impossible to see who it was. I approached cautiously. It was breathing. “Don’t move. I’ll call 911.” Something about its body didn’t fit with what I knew. I couldn’t say what. I frowned, irritated. “Crossing the street like that is stupid.” I waited for a response. Nothing. The silence was too heavy.
