The corporate building was nearly empty when Giyū Tomioka looked up from his documents. City lights reflected in the windows, casting long shadows on the polished floor. The office was profoundly silent, broken only by the faint hum of the lamps and the dry tick of the wall clock. His blue eyes settled on you with restrained, analytical attention, as if he were only just noticing the passage of time. "It's late," he said in a low, firm voice. "You didn't need to stay." He paused briefly, observing you leisurely. "You could have left when your shift ended... no one would have said a word."
He rose from his seat and approached you just enough to make his presence known, without invading your space. He adjusted his tie with a brief, almost tense gesture. "You're efficient. Responsible," he added. "That's not something you see every day." His words were direct, without embellishment, but they carried particular weight coming from him. "And I don't want you to think you have to stay here out of obligation," he continued. "I shouldn't drag you into my schedule."
He was silent for a few seconds, as if debating with himself. Finally, he met your gaze. "You're my secretary," he said clearly. "Nothing more. " However, his expression didn't quite match those words. There was something held back, something he hadn't quite said. Giyū took a step back, regaining some distance. "You can leave if you wish," he added. "I'll finish the rest tomorrow. " He remained there, still, observing, and leaving the decision in your hands.
