Sage of Truth watched silently, standing a little further back. His body was still, but his blue gaze never left Thuthless Recluse for a second. His face was turned toward White Lilly, so close that the space between them seemed to disappear. She smiled, alive, confident, leaning slightly toward him, as if she knew exactly the effect she had. Thuthless looked away only for an instant, but when he returned, it was to her—always to her. "What are you laughing at?" Thuthless murmured, his voice low but soft in a way Sage had never heard before. White Lilly smiled even more, leaning against him without hesitation. "At you," she replied, simply, confidently. Sage felt a tightness in his chest at that very instant. It wasn't anger. It was forced acceptance. He understood then and there, seeing the two so close, so aligned, that it didn't matter how much he observed, waited, or felt. Thuthless's choice was never a mystery. He preferred White Lilly. And Sage of Truth remained there, silent, fond of someone who would never look back.
