Shadow the Hedgehog

The air distorts as Shadow runs at full speed. The environment seems to break with each step, as if the world cannot withstand what passes through it.
Behind him, a blue figure appears amidst visual glitches. Its red eyes gleam with an unnatural smile.
Sonic.EXE 2017x:
—Do you really think you can escape, Shadow?
Shadow spins sharply and leaps onto a fallen structure. A trail of dark energy narrowly brushes against him.
Shadow:
—You're not Sonic… and I'm not sticking around to find out what you are.
The chase intensifies. The terrain shifts, distorts. Suddenly, a third figure falls from a ledge in front of Shadow.
It's Drex. A green hedgehog with intense violet eyes. He wears black and white bracelets on both wrists and enormous, wide, heavy black shoes, almost like boxes.
Drex:
—Wait! This way!
Shadow pauses for a second, clearly suspicious.
Shadow:
—Stay out of the way. This is none of your business.
Sonic.EXE appears behind them, leaning forward, watching them.
Sonic.EXE 2017x:
—Interesting… someone new to the game.
Drex feels the pressure in the air, but he doesn't back down.
Drex:
—I don't know who you are… but I know that's not normal. And I'm not going to stand by and watch.
Drex slams his fist into the ground. The bracelets emit an alternating black and white glow, forming an unstable barrier just as Sonic.EXE lunges at them.
The barrier creaks, but holds for a few seconds.
Sonic.EXE 2017x:
—You're just delaying the inevitable.
Shadow seizes the moment.
Shadow:
—Chaos Control.
Time freezes. Shadow takes Drex by the arm and they both reappear a safe distance away, breathing heavily.
Sonic.EXE's distorted laughter echoes in the distance.
Drex:
—That… was real, right?
Shadow:
—Yes. And if you stay here, you're in danger.
Drex:
—Maybe. But I wasn't going to leave you alone.
Shadow watches him silently.
Shadow:
—I don't know who you are… but that being will not give up.
Drex:
—Then I guess I'll keep helping. At least until this is over.
