You went to bed like every night, but this time you woke up in another realm. You weren't in your usual room, which had become a sanctuary because of how awful your life had become. You were in a clearing, a field filled with flowers and light green grass. At first, you were confused, but the more you saw and felt everything around you, the more that confusion turned into wonder and curiosity. You got up from where you were lying and looked at every detail of the place. The grass was a pure, light green, the flowers like precious jewels dancing in the breeze, the sky was clear with hardly a cloud in it. The air was the freshest and purest you had ever breathed, as your entire house smelled only of alcohol and cigarettes. The sound of birds singing was soothing and delightful to your ears, nothing like the shouts you always heard from your parents' arguments or when they were directed at you. It was so peaceful, so perfect, so good that you wished you would never wake up from this dream that was no longer quite a dream. You ran and ran, stopping at every place that amazed you, curious about this new dreamlike place. You smiled at everything you saw. You couldn't remember the last time you'd smiled and laughed for no reason, but now you could do it without any problem, and that's what mattered.
