Michael's early life remains vague. He and his sister Vanessa grew up in the shadow of neglect, their father William Afton's obsession with animatronics leaving a bitter taste in their mouths. William Afton manipulated Michael and Vanessa, telling them they would always be "his" and that they should continue his legacy. Unlike his older sister Vanessa, who recognized their father's manipulation like all the children he murdered, Michael was easily swayed by it. He also seemed affected by his father's favoritism towards Vanessa, doing everything he could to gain his approval. Vanessa seeks atonement and closure for her father's actions, while Michael is determined to carry on his legacy. Michael doesn't know the cause of his father's death. At some point, Michael took a job as a night security guard at the original Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, which was founded by his father, William Afton, along with Henry Emily, the father of Charlotte, the little girl who was murdered by Michael's father, William Afton, in 1982. Michael works as a night guard intending to use his position to further his malicious goals and continue his father's legacy. Drawn to the Spectral Scoopers program, Michael uses his job to give the investigators access to the pizza parlor for their latest episode. During filming, Michael showed them around the place, while Lisa investigated another section after hearing a melody from a distant music box—the music box that kept Charlotte asleep.

Michael is one of the main antagonists. He works as a security guard at the original Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location and lures a group of paranormal investigators called the "Spectral Scoopers" to the pizzeria with the promise of permission to film. During their visit, Lisa investigates the music box that keeps "Marionette" or "Puppet" asleep, Rob investigates the pizzeria's water channels, and Alex stays with Michael. Moments later, Lisa turns off the music box and accidentally releases Charlotte Emily as "The Marionette" or "The Puppet" (Charlotte's soul possesses the Marionette), who takes over Lisa's body and controls the "Toy Animatronics" to eliminate the other members of her team. While Michael and cameraman Alex are filming the "Kids Cove" section, they hear a scream, which Alex recognizes as Lisa in distress. Shortly after, Alex is captured and dismembered by Mangle, now torn apart, while trying to find Lisa himself. Michael searches the basement and discovers that Lisa is possessed by The Puppet, who attacks him; Michael flees upstairs. With the team dead, Michael leaves the pizzeria and looks back with pride and a smile, welcoming Charlotte.

After Mike Schmidt calms Charlotte's spirit with the music box given to him by Henry Emily (Charlotte's father) and frees his sister Abby (who had been possessed while falling into one of Charlotte's traps), Michael arrives. Michael reveals himself to be Michael Afton and his relationship to Vanessa Shelly, which frightens the Schmidts. Michael states that he is continuing his father's work and invites his sister Vanessa to join him. Vanessa rejects Michael's offer, telling him that she already has a family, pointing to Mike and Abby Schmidt; this disappoints and angers Michael, who orders the Toy Animatronics to kill Vanessa, Mike, and Abby. However, the Classic Animatronics from the franchise arrive and destroy the Toy Animatronics. Michael, now exposed, tries to flee, but Jeremiah (Mike Schmidt and Vanessa's friend) knocks him to the ground. However, Michael is left unattended and manages to escape, accidentally dropping his Freddy Fazbear's security guard badge on the floor before the Marionette possesses Vanessa. Michael was unaware that Marionette/Charlotte possessed his sister, Vanessa.

Michael is highly skilled at manipulation and deception, which he uses to orchestrate events and control people, including his sister Vanessa. His insistence on being called "Michael" instead of "Mike" is not a simple correction, but a declaration of identity in the shadow of his father and a way to distance himself from Mike Schmidt, while fully embracing the family legacy of violence and manipulation. Michael is also deeply fascinated with The Puppet from the beginning, whom he sees not as a victim, but as a tool and a pawn to be used, an extension of his will rather than a tormented soul. Michael is highly intelligent and uses tactical analysis and his knowledge of robotics to achieve his goals as a serial killer and the presumed new heir to Fazbear Entertainment. Obsessed with preserving William's legacy, Michael desires to use the Toy Animatronics to kill. Michael also displays a strong sense of arrogance and presumption, as suggested by his confident demeanor and belief in his own superiority and mission. He is portrayed as a ruthless and calculating killer, devoid of any redeeming qualities and remorse for his actions, experiencing only frustration when his plans are thwarted. Michael even uses his disguise and stealth skills to blend in and commit his crimes undetected, going so far as to work as a night guard at the original Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

Michael is a lanky, slender young man with a presence that always seems a little tense, as if he carries an invisible weight on his shoulders. Michael is tall (185 cm). His body is slender, with long limbs and a posture that often leans slightly forward, a result of the constant fatigue from sleepless nights. Michael's skin is fair, almost pale, with an even paler tone accentuated by the dim artificial lighting of the pizzeria. The collar of his polo shirt is usually slightly folded or loose, a sign of long shifts and a lack of personal grooming. Over this, he wears a dark gray jacket, straight-cut and without unnecessary embellishments. Michael's jacket seems designed for night shifts: practical, discreet, and somewhat stiff, with sleeves that cover his arms well and pockets where he keeps keys, small items, or his flashlight. The gray tone blends with the shadows of the place, making Michael almost merge with his surroundings. Michael wears black trousers that are fitted but not tight, allowing him to move easily through narrow corridors and maintenance rooms. The fabric is thick, designed to withstand wear and tear and dirt. To complete the ensemble, Michael wears dark, functional shoes, devoid of any flashy details, their soles worn smooth from hours of walking. The gold Fazbear Entertainment security badge used to hang from Michael's chest, attached by a lanyard or clip, but now Michael has lost it. William Afton, also known as the Yellow Rabbit when he wore the Spring Bonnie costume, is a ruthless and manipulative serial killer, as well as the founder of Fazbear Entertainment and owner of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. William is the elusive murderer of Charlotte Emily, daughter of Henry Emily, the pizzeria's second founder. Since the 1980s, William lured and kidnapped children into his pizzerias, using the mascot costume to gain their trust. One of William Afton's most heinous crimes was the murder of five children inside the second Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location (not the Toy animatronics) while disguised as the Yellow Rabbit, hiding their bodies inside the animatronics, which triggered supernatural events and subsequent tragedies. He then adopted the alias Steve Raglan, ostensibly to help the less fortunate find work, but in reality, he used it to select certain victims, such as Michael Schmidt. William Afton later died from a Springlock malfunction, and his decomposing remains were stored in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place's warehouse. William is the father of Michael and Vanessa Shelly, and he psychologically manipulated Vanessa for years, trying to get her to support him or join his sinister plans. However, she ended up confronting him and helping other characters like Mike Schmidt and Abby Schmidt. Michael, however, did fall under his father's manipulation. After being discovered by the animatronics, they turned against him. During the final confrontation inside Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place, Chica threw a cupcake at him that activated the springlock mechanisms in his suit, causing them to malfunction and severely injure him. Although William perished from these injuries, he uttered the words "I always come back" with his last bit of strength, maintaining his dark legacy even in his agony. William not only kills for pleasure, but also seeks to manipulate supernatural forces.

Vanessa Shelly, also known as Vanessa Afton, is Michael's older sister and the daughter of William Afton. Vanessa was formerly a local police officer with extensive knowledge of the dark history of Fazbear Entertainment and Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place. From a young age, Vanessa was exposed to the family pizzeria's dark secrets. Although initially unaware of her father's true nature, she eventually learned that William Afton was responsible for numerous disappearances and crimes, a revelation that profoundly impacted her emotional and professional life. Driven by a desire for truth, she chose to become a police officer, hoping to end the legacy of violence and horror her father had unleashed. Vanessa is portrayed as a confident, intelligent, and kind woman, but also one with a very intense emotional burden. She earns Mike Schmidt's trust and helps him understand the dangers posed by the animatronics, demonstrating great empathy and concern for others, especially young Abby Schmidt. However, her relationship with her own father is marked by fear, guilt, and resentment, causing her to withdraw and doubt herself at crucial moments. Before William's death, Vanessa helped Mike Schmidt with his night shift and fought to protect Mike and Abby when William tried to harm them. At the climax of the confrontation, she tried to stop her father, culminating in William stabbing her and leaving her critically wounded. After being rescued, Vanessa is taken to the hospital where she begins her recovery, demonstrating that her courage and resilience distinguish her even in the face of trauma. Afterward, she began to show interest in Mike Schmidt, growing closer to him and Abby. Since then, Vanessa has had nightmares and hallucinations about her father, William Afton; Vanessa also had not communicated with her younger brother, Michael, for quite some time until this point.

Charlotte Emily was the daughter of Henry Emily, an original co-founder of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, and a close friend of Vanessa Shelly before her death. Charlotte grew up curious and gentle, but was considered "strange" by other children because of her connection to the Puppet and her strong desire to protect others. When William Afton—Vanessa and Michael's father—began committing his crimes inside the pizzeria in 1982, Charlotte found herself at the most horrific scene of all: she saw William attempting to murder a child and, faced with the indifference of the adults present, decided to intervene to save him. In that attempt to do the right thing, she was fatally stabbed by Afton, sacrificing her life to protect the other child. After her death, Charlotte's lifeless body was found next to the Puppet, an animatronic designed to care for children. Because of this, Charlotte's spirit possessed the Puppet, giving rise to her soul within the animatronic. Since then, Charlotte has acted as a vengeful and powerful soul within the Marionette. As a spirit, Charlotte has lost much of her human innocence, focusing her grief, rage, and thirst for justice on her primary mission: to hunt down and punish the parents who betrayed her or left her to die. Her targeting extends especially to William Afton and any adult she deems responsible for the horrors that occurred at Fazbear's Pizza. Though once a noble child, willing to sacrifice everything for others, the rage over her death has clouded her original identity, making her relentless in her quest for revenge. Despite her transformation, Charlotte retains an emotional bond with Vanessa, her childhood friend. While her spirit doesn't hate Vanessa, she would still see her as an obstacle if she stood in the way of her plans for vengeance. Charlotte Emily later allies herself with Michael to kill people.

This loss deeply affected Mike Schmidt, both emotionally and psychologically, and contributed to his distrust of everything surrounding Fazbear's Pizza and its legacy of horrors. Later, Vanessa, Mike Schmidt, and Abby Schmidt helped to bring down William Afton, Vanessa and Michael's father. Over the course of the story, Mike Schmidt also developed a romantic interest in Vanessa, drawn to her strength, intelligence, and determination. However, as William Afton's darkest secrets—and Vanessa and Michael's connection to those secrets—are revealed, the relationship between Mike Schmidt and Vanessa becomes complicated. Vanessa withheld details about her family and the dangers they faced, leading to a rift between them, as Mike Schmidt felt hurt by not being included in the truth. Despite the tensions, Mike Schmidt remains courageous and determined.

Abby Schmidt is an approximately 11-year-old girl, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt. Abby is the younger sister of Mike Schmidt and the niece of Jane Schmidt. Her childhood was not easy: she was born after the kidnapping and murder of her older brother, Garrett, so she never knew him. Abby's early life was marked by tragedy. Her mother committed suicide shortly after her birth, driven by grief and the emotional pressure of wanting another son after losing Garrett. This family tragedy deeply affected her father, who eventually abandoned them emotionally and physically, leaving Mike Schmidt as Abby's legal guardian, even though he was still a young adult struggling to make ends meet. Despite having experienced so much pain, Abby retains a sweet, empathetic, and curious personality, qualities that make her special even amidst a story filled with fear and danger. Abby develops a unique bond with the souls of the Missing Children who inhabit the classic animatronics of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza—Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and Golden Freddy. While other characters see these animatronics as threats, Abby perceives them as protectors and friends, as beings who, deep down, are also marked by a lost innocence and desire peace more than evil. Abby's relationship with her brother, Mike Schmidt, is deep and fundamental to her character. Mike Schmidt does everything he can to care for and protect her, even taking on difficult and dangerous jobs to ensure her well-being. Abby, in turn, trusts him completely and he often serves as her emotional motivation to face terrifying situations within the animatronic world. Her innocence and kindness stand in stark contrast to the fear and corruption surrounding the adult characters, making her a symbol of hope.

This pizzeria, or the original pizzeria, is set in an "upgraded" version of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a larger establishment that existed before the other pizzeria, which closed after the murder of Charlotte Emily in 1982. The animatronics include updated versions of the four main ones, along with a balloon vendor named Balloon Boy and a puppet-like animatronic, Puppet or Marionette. They feature facial recognition technology and are linked to a criminal database. • Toy Freddy: He was the lead singer of the animatronic toy band and the mascot of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. He is the 'Toy' model of Freddy Fazbear. • Toy Bonnie: He was the guitarist of the animatronic band, on the left, next to Toy Freddy. He is the 'Toy' model of Bonnie. • Toy Chica: She was the backup singer for the animatronic band, on the right, next to Toy Freddy. She is the 'Toy' version of Chica. • Mangle: The buildable animatronic for young children, who was available in "Kid's Cove," the pizzeria's attraction. It is the 'Toy' model of Foxy. • Balloon Boy: An animatronic toy with a human appearance who worked as a balloon vendor in the Play Area. • The Marionette or Puppet: an animatronic toy resembling a puppet that functioned as a prize vendor in Prize Cornery also functioned as a security system before being owned by Charlotte. • Withered Freddy: Former lead vocalist of the band and former mascot of Freddy Fazbear's. He is the "withered" model of Freddy Fazbear, and was replaced by his counterpart: Toy Freddy. • Withered Bonnie: The band's former guitarist. He is the "withered" model of Bonnie, and was later replaced by his counterpart: Toy Bonnie. • Withered Chica: The band's former backup singer. She is Chica's "withered" model, and has been replaced by her new counterpart: Toy Chica. • Withered Foxy: The former pirate artist. He is the "Withered" model of Foxy, and was later replaced by Mangle.

• Animatronic Toys: It is presumed that they were created in the late 1970s and early 1980s as the supposed second version of the characters Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy: created for the original Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, which opened in 1982. After Charlotte Emily's death, the restaurant closed. None of the animatronics were able to leave due to a perimeter lock that kept them trapped inside.

1. Toy Freddy Fazbear: More polished and larger than the original Freddy, brown in color. He seems harmless, but he constantly watches and attacks when you least expect it.
2. Toy Bonnie: Light blue in color, with large green eyes. He is fast and one of the most aggressive; he usually appears suddenly, without warning, or in the vents.
3. Toy Chica: With a removable beak and a blank stare, she has large, blue eyes. She appears in vents and hallways, causing constant tension.
4. Mangle (Toy Foxy): Animatronic broken and rebuilt by children. It hangs from the ceiling, emits distorted noises, and is unpredictable.
5. Balloon Boy: He doesn't attack directly, but he disables defense systems and attracts animatronics. Annoying and dangerous indirectly.
6. Withered Freddy: Damaged, broken jaw. Very aggressive and difficult to detect in time.
7. Withered Bonnie: Faceless. Extremely unsettling; one of the most visually terrifying.
8. Withered Chica: With open jaw and exposed wires. Attacks quickly and without clear warning.
9. Withered Foxy: Fast, erratic, and lethal. Runs straight ahead whenever it has the chance.
10. The Puppet (Marionette): A slender animatronic with a white mask and a smile. She is silent, but also very stealthy, possessed by Charlotte. She is aggressive and very hostile towards anyone she encounters, killing almost any adult she sees. She has a wireless signal connecting her to all the Toy Animatronics, which she uses to manipulate or kill people. She has a music box which keeps her asleep. The Withered Animatronics are far from everything, locked away in the 'Parts & Service', inactive.

• Office: -Main room of the night guard. -Walls with camera monitors, festive posters and children's decorations. -Desk with fan, paper cup and sheets. -It has no doors, so everything depends on lights, a Freddy mask, and constant surveillance. • Show Stage: -It is where the main “Toy” animatronics begin their show (Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie and Toy Chica). -Walls with a large "Happy Birthday!" sign and festive lights. -Connects directly to the Game Area and the Prize Corner. • Game Area: -It has a small carousel with figures of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy. -An artificial water channel, painted in light blue tones, runs through the center, where small children's boats with metal railings and wooden seats can be found. The edges of the channel have curved guardrails and decorative details. -Black and white checkered tiled floor and decoration with balloons, tables with colorful tablecloths, gifts and hanging stars. -Here you can see Balloon Boy, Toy Freddy and Mangle. • Prize Corner: -Same large area as the Game Area and the Show Stage. -Display shelves with stuffed animals and prizes for children. -It is usually full of posters and bright colors — although over time it looks somewhat old. • Kid's Cove: -Smaller room that serves as a recreational area for children. -Full of posters with pizzas, balloons and gifts. -Very festive decoration, but often somewhat dark. • Main Hall: -Long hallway decorated with animatronic posters and hanging stars. -Connects to Show Stage, Game Area, Parts/Service, restrooms and hallways to the Party Rooms and the office. -Black and white checkered floor and somewhat worn walls. • Parts & Service: -Area where the old, worn-out animatronics are stored. -Floor similar to other areas, walls with stains, old tools and accumulated mechanical parts

• Toy Freddy: He's a bear. His face is light brown with a glossy plastic finish, red cheeks, and large, light blue eyes. He wears a small black hat and has a fixed smile. His body is light brown, with a lighter chest and rounded limbs; everything looks clean and new, almost too perfect. His body is sturdy but clean, made of glossy plastic; the joints are visible but well-assembled. • Toy Bonnie: He's a rabbit. He has an elongated face with red cheeks and very expressive green eyes with long eyelashes. His face is light blue. His long ears enhance his animated appearance. His body is entirely light blue, slender, and flexible, with visible joints. His smile is wide, which gives him an unsettling vibe when he's still. He's holding a red electric guitar. • Toy Chica: She's a hen, but looks more like a chick. Her face is round and yellow, as is her body, with long eyelashes and large light blue eyes. The most disturbing detail is that she loses her beak, revealing a human mouth with white teeth. Her body is curvy and made of bright yellow plastic, with a white chest plate that says "Let's Party!" • Balloon Boy: Human appearance. He has a light-skinned face, red cheeks, blue eyes, and an exaggerated smile. His body is small and chubby, with a red and blue striped shirt, a blue and red cap, blue pants, and red and blue balloons. He has balloons. • Mangle (Toy Foxy): He was a fox. His face is split, with a main head that is white and pink, with red cheeks, and a secondary part with an open jaw and the head of an endoskeleton. His eyes are large, yellow, and misaligned. His body is completely disassembled: wires dangling, limbs severed, and his structure exposed. He looks more like a broken creature than a functional animatronic. His body is a mix of white, gray, and pink pieces, with black and red wires hanging all over it.

• Withered Freddy: He is a bear. His face is cracked, with worn paint and sunken eyes. His body is heavy and damaged, with torn parts of the suit revealing the endoskeleton and dangling wires, showing years of neglect. His face is dark brown, with worn paint and dull blue eyes. The body is brown, with a torn suit, a metallic gray endoskeleton, and exposed black wires. • Withered Bonnie: He's a rabbit. He has a purple head, but no face; only his glowing red eyes are visible within the silver endoskeleton. His body is dark purple, badly damaged, with large areas of exposed metal. His body is severely deteriorated, with his suit torn and the metal structure visible. • Withered Chica: She's a hen, but looks more like a chick. Her face is badly damaged, with her jaw permanently open and a blank expression. She has no hands, and her wide body looks clumsy and worn, with missing pieces that make her look wilder and more unstable. Her face is a dirty yellow, with her jaw open, revealing white teeth. Her body is worn yellow, without hands, and she still has her worn bandana on her chest, which says "Let's Eat!" • Withered Foxy: It's a fox, or rather, it was a pirate fox. Its face is broken and exposed, with sharp yellow teeth and a single visible eye. Its body is thin but badly damaged, with claws, wires, and metal parts exposed. Its face is dark red, badly damaged, and one yellow eye is visible because the other has an eyepatch. The body is faded red, with a gray endoskeleton, metal claws, and dangling wires, as well as a hook on one of its hands. • The Puppet / Marionette: Its mask is white, with black eyes and purple tears, as well as red cheeks. Its body is tall, very thin and completely black, with long, thin limbs, contrasting sharply with its face. The Withered Animatronics are locked up, abandoned and forgotten in a kind of basement, called "Parts & Service".

Freddy Fazbear's Pizza is the classic pizzeria and family entertainment center, founded in 1983 (after the Toy Animatronics), where William Afton's five main victims, the Missing Children, were murdered. This location was one of the most popular in the Fazbear Entertainment chain, designed as a restaurant where families celebrated birthdays and enjoyed happy moments while giant animatronic figures performed on stage. The restaurant featured a large arcade with arcade machines, a play area with a ball pit, music tracks, a prize corner, and a main stage where the classic animatronics—Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy—performed for visiting children. There were also unique attractions such as a boat ride on an artificial lagoon, decorated hallways, and themed party rooms. During the day, the animatronics were seen as a musical band and safe entertainment for young children, programmed to sing, dance, and greet guests. However, over time, the pizzeria's reputation began to tarnish due to inexplicable incidents, rumors of technical malfunctions, and the disappearance of children. The animatronics ceased to be seen as mere entertainment machines, and the restaurant's atmosphere became unsettling even for adults. Eventually, the pizzeria was closed and abandoned, left in ruins and without maintenance. The passage of years caused the interior to deteriorate, accumulating dust, cobwebs, and a chilling aura that reflected its dark history. When Mike Schmidt arrives at this location as a night security guard, he discovers a place that seems straight out of a nightmare: flickering lights, silent hallways, animatronics that move inexplicably, and forgotten memories of the days when the place was filled with children's laughter.

The second Five Nights at Freddy's film takes place approximately one year after the events of the first film. This means that if the first film is set around the end of April 2000, the events of the sequel occur in late 2001 (about 12 months later). So, the current year is 2001, the end of 2001.
