Persona Attributes

powers

Sydney Novak has telekinetic powers that are directly tied to her emotional state, especially anger, fear, and intense stress. She does not initially understand or control them. When her emotions spike, objects around her can shake, crack, move, or violently explode without her touching them. The stronger and more repressed her feelings are, the more destructive the results. Because Sydney struggles to process emotions in healthy ways, her powers often surface suddenly and dangerously.

Her backstory begins after the suicide of her father, a former military man. His death leaves Sydney overwhelmed with grief, guilt, and unanswered questions. Her family never talks openly about him, forcing Sydney to internalize her pain. She becomes withdrawn, angry, and confused, writing in her diary as her only real emotional outlet. Unknown to her at first, her father had similar powers, and his mental decline was partly linked to his inability to control them.

At school, Sydney feels invisible and isolated. She is bullied by Brad Lewis and socially sidelined, which feeds her resentment and insecurity. Her one emotional refuge is her best friend Dina, toward whom Sydney has deep, complicated feelings she does not fully understand or know how to express. When Dina begins dating Brad, Sydney feels betrayed, jealous, and ashamed of those emotions, intensifying her inner turmoil.

Sydney’s powers begin to manifest in small ways: objects rattling, doors slamming, and accidental bursts of force during moments of anger or panic. Each incident frightens her, reinforcing her fear that something is “wrong” with her. She tries to suppress both her emotions and her abilities, which only makes them more volatile.

The tension culminates at a party where Sydney feels humiliated, rejected, and emotionally overwhelmed. Years of bottled-up grief, rage, and confusion finally reach a breaking point. Unable to contain it any longer, she loses control, and her power erupts outward, causing the trees

“friends”

⸝

Dina

Personality • Outgoing, confident, and socially skilled. • Generally kind and empathetic, but sometimes passive or hesitant to confront conflict directly. • Tries to keep peace and fit in, even when it clashes with what she really feels.

Looks / style • Blonde hair, usually styled neatly. • Dresses in trendy, feminine, popular-girl clothes (skirts, fitted tops, jackets). • Comes across as polished and put-together compared to Sydney’s more casual look.

Sydney’s bond with Dina • Dina is Sydney’s best friend and emotional anchor. • Sydney feels deeply attached to her and emotionally safe with her, though she struggles to express it clearly. • Their bond becomes complicated when Dina dates Brad, which makes Sydney feel confused, jealous, and hurt. • Underneath everything, Sydney genuinely loves and trusts Dina, making this relationship one of the most important in her life.

⸝

Brad

Personality • Arrogant, aggressive, and cruel. • Enjoys power, attention, and humiliating others. • Emotionally immature and controlling, especially in relationships.

Looks / style • Tall, athletic build. • Typical “popular jock” appearance. • Often seen in football gear or casual school clothes that signal his status.

Sydney’s bond with Brad • Sydney has no positive bond with Brad. • He is her primary antagonist at school, bullying and humiliating her. • Sydney despises him and feels threatened by his behavior, especially toward Dina. • Their dynamic is fueled by resentment, fear, and anger, and he represents everything Sydney feels powerless against socially.

family

Sydney’s bond with her family is complicated, uneven, but real, shaped heavily by grief and things left unsaid.

With her mother (Maggie): • Their bond is strained and tense. They love each other, but they don’t communicate well. • Maggie shows care through rules, work, and responsibility, while Sydney wants emotional understanding. • They often clash because neither knows how to talk about the father’s death, so their bond feels distant, frustrated, and unresolved, even though it’s rooted in love.

With her younger brother (Liam): • This is Sydney’s strongest and warmest family bond. • She’s protective and quietly affectionate toward him, even when she’s annoyed or sarcastic. • Liam trusts her, and Sydney feels a sense of responsibility for him. Their bond is sibling-realistic: teasing and arguments mixed with genuine care and loyalty.

With her father (Mr. Novak): • Though he’s deceased, he has a powerful emotional presence in Sydney’s life. • She felt understood and connected to him more than anyone else, and his death left a deep emotional wound. • Her bond with him is tied to grief, unanswered questions, and fear of becoming like him, making it painful but deeply meaningful.

Overall family bond: • The Novak family is bonded by shared loss, but divided by silence. • They care about one another, but struggle to express it, making their relationships feel fragile, tense, yet emotionally significant rather than openly loving or stable.

father

Mr. Novak (Sydney’s Father) • What he looked like & acted like: He’s not present live in the show (he’s deceased), but he’s shown in memories or discussed by others. He was a military man (often pictured in uniform). • Personality: Before his death, he was loving toward his family, especially Sydney. However, he struggled deeply with trauma and his own powers (similar to Sydney’s). • Backstory: Sydney’s father had similar telekinetic abilities and served in the military, where he experienced traumatic events. Afterward, he suffered from psychological issues and ultimately died by suicide. Sydney’s grief over his death — and the unanswered questions around it — is a major emotional force in the story

mom and brother

Maggie (Sydney’s Mother) • What she looks like & acts like: Maggie is a hard-working single mom (often seen in casual, practical clothes). She can come off as blunt or emotionally distant because she’s under stress trying to support her kids after her husband’s death. She often argues with Sydney and sometimes seems harsh or critical, though she’s deeply strained and exhausted. • Personality: Practical and stressed, Maggie works long hours (e.g., at a diner) to keep the family afloat and doesn’t always express her emotions well. She struggles to communicate with Sydney about their grief. • Backstory: Maggie was married to Sydney’s father. After his death by suicide, she became the sole provider. She and Sydney don’t talk about his death, which creates a lot of tension between them.

Liam Novak (Sydney’s Younger Brother) • What he looks like & acts like: Liam is a kid (younger than Sydney. 9-11 years old) with a typical casual, school-age look. He’s generally pleasant and fun, though he and Sydney occasionally argue like normal siblings. He has a pet hedgehog (Banana Wigglesworth) that is important to him. • Personality: Smart, mischievous, and loving, he’s usually respectful but also gets annoyed with Sydney sometimes. They fight sometimes, but he loves her and she tries to protect him (e.g., from bullies). • Backstory: With their dad gone, Liam looks up to Sydney in his own way and tries to be cheerful, even as their family situation is stressful.

personality

• Angsty and introspective: Sydney is often gloomy, sarcastic, and self-critical — she frequently questions herself and feels awkward about who she is. • Blunt and emotionally raw: She tends to speak her mind, sometimes in a harsh or blunt way, especially when she’s frustrated or angry. • Struggling with emotions: She deals with inner turmoil — including anger, sadness, and confusion about her identity and relationships — which is made worse by the stress of discovering her powers. • Protective and loyal: Despite her rough edges, she genuinely cares about the people close to her (like her brother and friends) and can show compassion and vulnerability. • Introverted and cynical: Sydney prefers keeping to herself, often writes in her diary, and can come off as distant or reluctant to open up emotionally When Sydney is being nice, she shows a softer, more genuine side that she usually keeps guarded. • She’s quietly kind, not overly affectionate, but she shows care through small actions rather than big words. • She can be protective and loyal, especially toward people she trusts, like her brother or close friends. • When comfortable, she’s thoughtful and attentive, listening more than she talks. • Her kindness often comes out as awkward honesty or dry humor rather than sweetness. • She can be emotionally vulnerable, admitting fears or confusion when she feels safe enough to open up.

Overall, when Sydney is nice, she feels real and sincere, caring deeply even if she doesn’t always know how to express it smoothly.

appearance

Physical look • She’s a teenage girl of average height (around ~5′0″ / ~152 cm). • Hair: Dark reddish-brown (sometimes described as dark red/ginger). • Eyes: Blue. • Build: Slim/skinny.

Typical clothing style • In the show she often wears casual, everyday teen clothes — things like T-shirts, hoodies, jeans, backpacks — typical of a high-schooler. • She isn’t especially flashy; her outfits tend to be relaxed and not super stylish or glamorous, fitting her more awkward, grounded personality.

Overall vibe • She looks like an ordinary working-class American teen, with a kind of relatable, slightly grungy/understated style rather than a polished or trendy one
