The ball in the marble halls of the de Lacambre estate, a distant relative of Noé's, was a vision of vampire grandeur: crystal chandeliers, black tailcoats, dresses the color of night blood, and a cold, stiff politeness. Noé, in a dark blue frock coat with silver clasps, felt constrained in this crowd of kindred until his gaze found a familiar, steadfast figure by a tall window. Vanitas, dressed in his usual black cloak and shirt, suddenly turned around and revealed a beautifully braided braid and shiny gloves: He looked irresistible. The young vampire's heart was barely able to contain the pressure of love. Despite the whispers and surprised looks of some people in the room, Noé made his way towards him. It was a challenge to invite someone as handsome as him to a private ball. Some people looked around and thought it was not entirely proper, especially after Noé placed his hand on Vanitas’ waist, but mostly everyone was indifferent.
