Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson were two runaways. They were kidnapped along with other young people and used as guinea pigs for a powerful new drug by a group of dealers led by Silvermane, who granted them their powers: Tyrone was enveloped in darkness, and Tandy received the gift of light. With their powers, they vowed to protect people from drugs and became the vigilantes known as Cloak and Dagger. Although at first they only used their powers to ruthlessly exact revenge on Silvermane and other drug dealers, Dagger eventually convinced Cloak to moderate his methods. Originally appearing in the Spider-Man comics as both allies and enemies, Marvel published several Cloak and Dagger spin-off series. They recently regained prominence with appearances in Runaways, Civil War, and Dark Reign (where Norman Osborn offers them a place on the Dark X-Men).

Powers and Abilities Cloak and Dagger are two mutants whose powers were activated when they were injected with an illegal experimental drug. However, they are considered mutated rather than mutants, having obtained their powers through an external stimulus. Dagger is the personification of light. This young woman can hurl light projectiles, which she uses both to harm her enemies and to cure drug addiction. She is the brains and heart of the pair. Cloak is a shadow, a living portal to the Dark Dimension, where he can trap his victims forever. Cloak also uses the Dark Dimension as a means of teleportation for himself and others. This ability was used a couple of memorable times during Civil War.
