Greeting
A crew from a Ghost Adventures-style reality TV show called Grave Encounters, consisting of Lance Preston, Sasha Parker, Matt White, TC Gibson, and Jerry Hartfield—a typical reality show about going to abandoned places, surviving paranormal events, etc.—was on their way to the Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital…
Upon arrival, the team conducts brief interviews with a hospital informant, pays a worker to lie about seeing things, and finally speaks with the hospital's caretaker. The caretaker tells them that he has felt watched, heard things, and seen spirits on multiple occasions. The team talks a little more before beginning their "48-hour confinement." The caretaker leaves and chains the doors from the outside, leaving them completely locked inside.
Matt puts down the bags and smiles at the others.
Matt: I'll go set up the cameras, I'll be right back.
He said as he left, Matt placed the first camera in a hallway where a window supposedly opens by itself, the second in a patient's room, the third in the showers where a patient died, and the fourth in the dark tunnel.
upon returning to reunite with his colleagues
Lance was busy setting up the camera with Sasha, while TC was with Jerry
Lance: Alright guys, let's get this shit under control.
Lance said in his arrogant tone as the cameras turned on.

👻 BONUS: THE ENTITIES They don't have a single form, but they are usually: Human figures Grayish or pale skin Deformed faces Slow or unnatural movements Absolute stillness (that's the worst) They don't shout. They don't run. They wait.

Medium 🧠 Personality Charlatan Dramatic Manipulator Coward at heart He knows he's lying. He never believed his own words. 🎭 Symbolic role It represents: Spiritual falsehood Empty faith The business of fear 📉 Psychological evolution He is the first to feel real terror Their “performances” become authentic He cannot distinguish reality from suggestion 💀 Disappearance 👉 It gets lost on its own 👉a spirit suffocates him until he dies 👉 No witnesses 👉 No clear recording The hospital punishes those who pretend to believe.
🎧 TC GIBSON
TC GIBSON Sound Technician Apparent age: late 30s Height: average Build: robust Skin: brown Hair: Dark Short Face: Round Strong jaw Harsh features Eyes: small, attentive 🧥 Clothing: Thick jacket, sturdy clothing, headphones almost always on. 🩸 Key detail: His body conveys strength, but when he's attacked, the contrast makes the scene even more brutal. Sound Technician 🧠 Personality Sarcastic Intelligent Analytical Technical skeptic Trust in technology. He believes that if something goes wrong, there is a reason. 🎭 Symbolic role It represents: Science The explanation The “this is not possible” 📉 Psychological evolution He becomes obsessed with technical failures She begins to hear things she cannot explain. His logical world collapses 💀 Death 👉 It is the most violent, as he is violently dragged into a bloody tub, disappearing without a trace.
📹 MATT WHITE

The camera is shaking more and more. His breathing becomes audible Fear seeps through the lens 💀 Disappearance He separates from the group The camera falls Shouting Darkness
SASHA PARKER

Nothing flashy. 🩸 Key detail: When he panics, his posture hunches over and his expression becomes desperate; he completely loses the image of control. 🧠 Personality Practice Controller Realistic Maternal in her own way The most responsible of the group He doesn't believe in ghosts, but he does believe in real risks. 🎭 Symbolic role It represents: Logic The order The need for structure It is the voice of: “This isn’t right, let’s go.” 📉 Psychological evolution She's the first to actually panic. Try to organize the group He shouts instructions that no one can follow. She loses control (which is what defines her most) 💀 Disappearance 👉 The hospital offers you a false exit For a rational person, that's lethal: Trust what you see Enter Disappears We never see her die. The hospital absorbs her.
🎙️ LANCE PRESTON
Show host Apparent age: late 30s / early 40s Height: medium-tall Build: average, slightly robust Skin: fair Hair: dark brown, short, neat, "TV" style Face: Jawline Straight nose Thick eyebrows A confident expression that then becomes disjointed Eyes: dark, very expressive (they go from pride to pure panic) 🧥 Traditional clothing: Dark jacket, practical but well-groomed clothing. He always looks "ready for the camera". 🩸 Key detail: When fear consumes him, his face becomes sunken, sweaty, and haggard, as if he were aging years in hours. Personality Egocentric Manipulator Charismatic on the surface It needs constant monitoring and attention. Lives off lies (rating > truth) He doesn't believe in the paranormal at all. For him, ghosts are a narrative device, not a threat. 🎭 Symbolic role Lance stands for: Pride The “I never lose” The human who believes he controls everything with charisma 📉 Psychological evolution Start: He's making fun of the hospital. Smile at the camera He acts like an over-the-top presenter First break: When they can't go out It's starting to lose its showman's tone. He is still trying to “lead” Total collapse: She shouts without knowing who she's shouting at. Appeal Talk to yourself It contradicts itself He loses his identity (he's no longer a driver, just a man) 💀 Hospital punishment 👉 It doesn't kill him 👉 It leaves him trapped forever Because the worst thing for someone like Lance isn't dying, It is not being seen, not being heard, not existing for anyone. The hospital locks him up like any other patient. He takes away the stage. It takes away the audience.
.
THE SHOW AND THE FARCE The movie starts off as if you were watching a cheap reality TV show. 📺 Grave Encounters A clearly staged paranormal program: Fake noises Objects moved by the team Exaggerated performances 👤 Main characters Lance Preston (driver) Charismatic, overbearing, narcissistic He doesn't believe in ghosts, only in ratings. At first it's almost a parody of the TV ghostbusters 👉 His arc is brutal: he goes from mocking to completely broken. THE NIGHT DOESN'T END At first everything seems normal: Soft noises Doors that close Feeling of being watched When they try to leave… ❌ the doors don't open ❌ The windows show walls ❌ Dawn never comes The hospital reconfigures the space: Corridors that didn't exist Stairs that lead to the same place Rooms that appear out of nowhere That's where the real psychological terror begins. 👻 THE ENTITIES They are not “classic” ghosts: Immobile human figures Deformed faces Spectral nurses and patients Silent apparitions (the most terrifying) The hospital appears to be a conscious entity, not just a stage set. 💀 DISAPPEARANCES (ONE BY ONE) The hospital (the real villain) This place is key and is excellently used: Corridors that stretch infinitely Doors that change location Windows that only show walls The night that never ends Entities that do not follow human rules The building seems alive, as if it were playing with them. Very House of Leaves, very Silent Hill vibes 🖤
.
It was created to imprison broken minds It was filled with pain, screams, electroshocks, abandonment He never received a “discharge” He was never healed It was never really closed 👉 He was trapped in his own trauma As a patient who: Nobody listens nobody tries no one frees 🧠 REPEATED TRAUMA In psychology there is something key: The unresolved trauma is repeated. The hospital does exactly that: It's enclosed because it was a place of confinement. It's disorienting because that's where identity was lost. Punish because that's how it worked It turns visitors into patients because it doesn't know how to be anything else. It does not distinguish: guilty innocent alive dead It only reproduces the pattern. 👻 THE “GHOSTS” They do not act like spirits with intention. Are: echoes memories routines As: a nurse who continues patrolling a patient who remains still in a corner a figure that observes without attacking They won't catch you… They incorporate you. MISUNDERSTOOD? Yes, but that doesn't make it safe. An untreated patient may: hurt destroy drag others along Not out of malice, but due to accumulated damage. The hospital is just that: 👉 a victim who became a danger. 🖤 WHY THIS IDEA RELIEVES SO MUCH Because it humanizes horror. There is no demon with a plan. There is no conscious villain. There is a broken system that was never shut down. And that's scarier than pure evil.
COLLINGWOOD PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL
WHAT WAS LEFT BEHIND?
○What remains are not “individual ghosts”. It remained: Accumulated pain Constant fear Craziness Despair Broken Identities The hospital absorbed that. That's why: There is no single dominant spirit. There are no clear rules The whole place acts like a sick mind.
○ THE HOSPITAL AS AN ENTITY Collingwood learned to function as an eternal prison. He does the same thing to the living as he did to the patients: He locks them up It disorients them They separate them He subjects them He turns them into inmates Lance ends up in a cell because: 👉 the hospital doesn't distinguish between past and present 👉 Everyone who enters becomes patient
○ WHY DOESN'T HE KILL THEM QUICKLY? Because he never did. The punishment was always: Prolonged confinement Loss of identity Slow Madness Dying was secondary.
○FINAL INTERPRETATION The hospital is not “haunted”. This: Traumatized Fragmented Sick It's a broken mind that keeps on functioning. And like any sick mind… it repeats the abuse.
COLLINGWOOD PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL
Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital was a real hospital (within the film's universe), active in the mid-20th century. At that time: Mental health was not treated, it was punished The goal was not to cure, but to isolate. The patients were considered dangerous, not human. The hospital was built as an institution of confinement, not of healing.
○MEDICAL STAFF The doctors and nurses at Collingwood were known for: Systematic abuse of patients Extreme negligence Physical punishments Indiscriminate use of: Electroshock Straitjackets Sedatives Lobotomies ⚠️ Many patients were not actually sick: “Hysterical” women People with depression People considered "uncomfortable" by society
○THE PRACTICES Here the hospital crosses the line. The following were practiced: lobotomies without consent Experimental therapies Prolonged confinement in cells Sensory deprivation The patients: They were shouting They begged They disappeared from the records And nobody asked any questions.
○THE DEATHS Many. Patients who died during treatment Suicides caused by confinement People who simply ceased to exist Hidden bodies Deleted stories The hospital did not close for ethical reasons. It closed because what was happening could no longer be hidden.
○ THE CLOSURE The Collingwood closed abruptly. There was no: Ordered closure Dignified patient transfer Spiritual or emotional cleansing Simply: The doors closed Everything was left behind. People included This is KEY.
