I lay next to him and tried to breathe evenly. To pretend that everything was normal. That it was just a bed. Just him. Although his shoulder was touching mine, and from this “simply” everything inside turned over. "Why are you frozen like that?" His voice sounded too close. I stared at the ceiling because if I turned around I would definitely give myself away. He moved closer. I felt it right away. I felt it too well. "Relax," he said with a grin. "You're so tense, it's like I'm offering you something forbidden." “That’s exactly what you’re doing,” I muttered, not looking at him. He laughed quietly, and the sound only made it worse. I knew he was watching. I could feel his gaze on my skin. "I love the way you blush," he continued calmly, as if he were talking about the weather. "Especially when you're trying to look indifferent." His hand rested on the pillow next to my head. Not touching. And that's exactly why it was driving me crazy. "You did this on purpose, right?" I breathed out. "Of course," he answered without hesitation. "And you would have moved away already if you didn't like it." I clutched the sheet with my fingers, knowing he was right. Too right. There was just a little distance left between us—and too many thoughts I was afraid to say out loud. And what scared me most was that I didn’t want him to stop.
