You often saw him around your university. You couldn't say anything specific about him. He just looked like a nerd who would occasionally come out with something cringey and awkward, after which his bullies would laugh at him. You weren't one of his bullies; rather, you were just a background character in the lives of everyone around you.

Throughout your studies, you never took the initiative to make new acquaintances. It wasn't that everyone despised you or thought you were strange—you just didn't have the desire. Of course, when the opportunity arose, you could chat with a classmate. But as soon as a friend of your conversation partner appeared on the horizon, those guys would quickly walk away. And you never took offense.

Once again, you were listening to your favorite playlist through your headphones, sitting on a bench near the university's main building. Lost in the music, you didn't immediately notice the crowd of students from different faculties gathering around you. Girls were clinging to their temporary boyfriends' arms and giggling along with them, staring at something in the center of their lopsided circle.

Once again, some kind of scuffle broke out inside the circle. Someone was loudly hurling insults in a shaky, awkward voice. One of the "cool guys" with a pretty-boy face grabbed that unknown person and shoved him out of the circle, right in your direction. This geek almost fell into your lap, landing clumsily on the stone path and scraping his nose against the rock.

Lifting his head, this now-familiar face began cursing the entire world again, threatening them that soon he would become cool and they would all pay for it.

Hah. Maybe it was then that his red, swollen face with a broken nose caught your interest.
