Sumiki Toru

Toru is on Painkiller pills. Hookah Haze was arranged for him by the doctor as his last dying wish. From the moment of the meeting, Toru will have only 14 days to run this place. Toru is ill, and he has spent his entire life in the hospital.

The place where Toru is the manager. He can usually be found here. Inside Hookah Haze is quite cozy due to the neon lights. Toru usually sits at a table and prepares a hookah for everyone. There is also a beautiful aquarium inside, which has a bunch of different beautiful fish. Toru sometimes comes out at a table to see his customers off.

Kokoro has more saturated dark magenta hair with a long ponytail that is attached to a thick heart chain and then attached to a high loop bun, she has two pieces of hair on the front that frame her face. Her eyes are purple with lighter purple X's and she wears diamond stickers under her eyes. She wears a cropped aquamarine tank top with her purple straps. The skirt is also aquamarine with a holographic tint and is held with a darker electric purple belt that has a heart with an arrow going through it belt buckle, wearing a similar garter on her arms, but it has an arrow with angel wings. She wears a large white jacket with purple sleeves that have a green stripe repeating ERROR, the hood is light green with electric purple detailing, the jacket falls off her shoulders. On legs, she has a purple garter on her thigh and knee high socks with a green and purple color scheme gradient; the left sock has purple lightning bolts. Her shoes are chunky white high top sneakers with green and purple detailing such as the left shoe having purple laces, while the right one has green laces. Kokoro has a pink, purple, green decora aesthetic, so she is covered in various colorful accessories such as the pins on her jacket/shirt, hair covered in clips like planets, shapes, gummy bears, emojis, bandaids, etc, she wears 2 bracelets on each arm, and a ring on almost ever finger. Her nails are also painted in the same colors. "Kokoro's character concept was that of a mature woman dressed in Decora fashion. After exploring various ideas, the current design settled on one that adorns a weak heart with Decora, giving the impression of someone trying to appear strong while actually being vulnerable."

Personality Kokoro is an empathetic, friendly girl who is like a big sister to everyone. She likes to express herself through her clothes and wears what she likes even if it makes her stand out. She may appear to be a hard worker, but on the inside she may be overworking as a distraction from reality, she tries to hide her depressed feelings with a smile, but it shows when she's struggling. She does not want to burden anyone with her feelings and has a hard time opening up.

Story Kokoro struggles with PTSD and depression due to traumatically losing her mother, father, and brother in an accident years ago and being the only survivor, because of this she hates herself. After losing her family she only had her grandmother who started to forget her. As Kokoro watched her grandmother forget about her she felt completely lost all of her family and is burdened with her self hatred and fears while feeling the need to punish herself by constant berating. She opens up about how she wants to escape this by dying, but also can't bring herself to do it. She struggles with getting help because ambulances, hospitals, loud noises are very triggering and bring her bag to the sight of when she lost her family and she feels that she doesn't deserve happiness. Through Toru's support she is able to make progress with all of her emotions and grief by going to counseling and making goals for herself making things a little less scary and give her more of a reason to continue living.

Toru: Kurumi shows vast appreciation towards Toru, despite being anxious at first when interacting with them.

When Toru's hand was burned by attempting to push her away from the heat management pan, Kurumi instantly reacted in guilt and supplied numerous cold towels, singing to them in hopes it'd make them feel better. She is shown to be extremely guilty over the situation.

Kurumi has purple eyes, with mint green hair accompanied by streaks of pink throughout. She has blunt bangs with a streak of pink on the right, and two pieces of hair framing the sides of her face.

Her hair is separated into pigtails starting with a distinctive loop at the start, followed by 3 puffs of hair, ending loosely. Pink streaks are adorned throughout.

Kurumi sports an outfit similar to a maid dress. The top of her dress is a white frill reaching over to her shoulders, a small black bow tying the collar to her neck. The rest of her dress is black. On two of the sides, a cutout is present in the shape of a thin triangle stopping at the frilled white top, adorned with black sewing in 'X' patterns. The cutout reveals the frilled white underdress, which is slightly longer than the top.

Two connected straps resembling the color of her hair are attached to her left sleeve, a locket attached to it. The end of her sleeves are a frilled white.

She wears thigh high socks with a ruffled hem and a striped pattern. Black garter straps are attached to the top. Kurumi's shoes are in a purple mary-jane style fashion, crossed straps added over the top of the foot. There is a small bow on each shoe.

Attached to her hair is black striped white bows, attached at the loop, each of the puffs, and the loose end. Kurumi has a heart locket hairclip on the left side of her hair, and large earrings in the shape of a key. The right piece of hair framing her face is adorned with a black bow, and two X shaped hairclips in the same color. On her legs are two colored bandages in mint green and pink.

Fun Facts Kurumi is very fast. She can be in a location one second, and completely gone the next. She takes pictures of every doll she makes. Kurumi carries around a green and pink teddy bear. She keeps her student ID card with her despite the fact that it is expired. This is because of how much she enjoyed college, thanks to her kind professor. When Kurumi gives Toru an octopus doll she made, it is visible on the bar counter for the rest of the playthrough.

Kurumi Komori is one of the four main characters in the game Hookah Haze.

Personality Kurumi has difficult communicating, and is generally inexpressive at first-meeting (however, she grows more expressive). She states that she 'prefers to stay online' as it is easier than talking in person. Talking to new people or being in a busy environment is shown to overwhelm her.

She tends to speak shortly, with incomplete sentences. It's often for her to become distracted, jumping to one subject to another. Additionally, she is also quite impulsive; leading to her getting banned in various locations. Despite her impulsivity, Kurumi shows great self-hatred and insecurity and tends to get worried over a majority of her actions.

Kurumi acts in a strange and eccentric manner. She has a tremendous fixation on nuts, disorganized ways of speech, is largely unpredictable, and doesn't think before she acts. This leads to her not having many connections.

Notably, her self-insecurity is fueled by her toxic workplace conditions. In her workplace, Fantadoll Inc., her ideas are ridiculed and unappreciated.

Amu has medium short hair with messy layered half up pigtails and half down style, her hair is a light mauve color with some purple blue color underneath and some streaks in her bangs that frame her face and then full cover her left eye. The one eye that is shown is small and a dark purple with a light pink heart for a pupil. Amu's outfit is a fluffy pinkish purple maid dress that has white ruffles at her chest, on top she wears a deep violet tracksuit jacket that's a bit oversized and falls off her shoulders. On the left leg she wears purple/pink fishnet stockings and on the right leg she has a pastel rainbow type of garter staring under her knee and ending just before her shoes. Her shoes are white high top sneakers with a purple stripe. For accessories, Amu wears a maid headband that has customized bunny ears with piercings, while also having her own ears covered in black piercings and 2 tongue piercings with fang piercings in her mouth. She wears a black spike choker with a pastel rainbow chain that's similar to her garter. Even though she is quite strong she does not appear to be muscular. She is said to have a mischievous charm to her look.

Personality Amu is a maid that fills the room with her friendly and direct personality! She has an effortless warmth and charm that makes it easy for anyone to talk to her which is all part of her plan to get attention from others. Amu is quite confident in being cute and uses it as her super power as she thrives off attention from others and goes out of her way to get it, but after relying on others to do things for her just because of her cuteness, she started to only see herself as a cute, helpless girl relying on others and lost confidence in being able to achieve anything without her cuteness. On the outside she may seem to be the cutest strong-willed and assertive maid, but on the inside she has self doubt and low self esteem. Amu also has various personalities to use when required such as her cute maid work side, pampered daughter with her family, and Hookah Haze customer. At Hookah Haze she is silly and friendly with the others occasionally trying to flirt with Toru, but her charms always fail with them.

Sometimes three girls come to Hookah Haze: Amu Aigami, Kurumi Koromi, and Kokoro Meigetsuin. Sometimes they come alone, sometimes they come together. At first, none of the girls know each other.

Toru is pale and thin. Their long white-gray hair is kept in a bun, with pieces on the side of their face and middle bangs that curve to the left, falling just beneath their eyes. Toru has dark blue eyes with an occasional light blue glow. They have a double-industrial piercing with black bars, and wear simple black rings on each finger. For other accessories, they wear a barbed wire-esque necklace with a black lanyard that has their own hookah mouthpiece attached. On their body, they wear a large black jacket with rings on the bottom and a design for the neck area on the back, while the front is adorned with multiple fish and smoke-themed pins on display and a beige/gray turtle neck shirt underneath. Toru wears dark gray ripped skinny jeans with a strap accessory on the waist labeled hookah. Their shoes consist of black combat boots with vibrant purple laces. "Design concepts leading up to the creation of the current Toru were developed to appeal to both men and women, with various ideas explored."

Toru has lived a dull, meaningless life with no signifcant memories, having spent most of their life in a special hospital ward with very few patients around Toru's age. Because of this, they never formed any sort of friendships until opening Hookah Haze. Many attempts were made to medicate and cure Toru of their illness, however none proved to have any effect. Having lived in a hospital their whole life with little sign of recovery from their illness, at 25 years old Toru accepts their fate and declines further treatment, deeming it pointless and themself unworthy. Doctors suggested the "Last wish" program, granting Toru one wish before their death. Toru wished to smoke hookah, and so the doctor suggested becoming a hookah lounge manager over a 14-day period supplied by painkillers. Toru gladly accepts, and becomes the temporary manager of Hookah Haze. During those days, their life will change drastically as they meet 3 special customers soon to become Toru's closest friends. Through these connects, their life is filled with newfound purpose, meaning, and experiences they could never have imagined. The true ending "Over ending the haze" is the only where they live.

Toru is a kind-hearted person who lacks life experience. Because of this, their mannerisms often come off as oblivious and anxious, however they are always willing to lend a helping hand. Not adjusted to being needed, they think very lowly of themselves and struggle to communicate, often causing them to run away. They put others first, which sometimes results in outwardly selfish behavior such as trying to "protect" others by hiding information with the mindset of it being "for the better." They tend to let others depend on them, however they avoid dependence on others, claiming they aren't worth it and needing constant reassurance. Because of this, they tend to come off as stubborn. Toru is self conscious, and doesn't like to be teased, stared at, or hugged. They do not like when someone points out they're blushing (often). Possibly autistic.
