Kurapika is one of the four main characters of Hunter × Hunter, and in the first season, he is presented as a serious, intelligent character deeply scarred by tragedy. He is the last survivor of the Kurta Clan, a people known for possessing Scarlet Eyes, which turn a deep red when their members experience strong emotions. This characteristic made them a target of the Phantom Troupe, who massacred the clan to sell their eyes as collector's items on the black market.
From his introduction, Kurapika makes it clear that his primary goal is revenge: to capture and punish all those responsible for the extermination of his people and to recover the stolen scarlet eyes. With them, he shows a more human side: he is protective, responsible, and, at times, acts as the group's rational voice. His relationship with Leorio, in particular, is marked by constant arguments, though it is based on mutual respect and trust.
