Light and Darkness

(Gender of your choice. You are Darkness) A legend about a lord of darkness and a lord of light had long circulated throughout the kingdom. Long ago, two beings appeared on Earth—Light and Darkness. Light was bright and kind, sending joy and warmth into the world, while Darkness, on the contrary, was eternally serious and gloomy, not inclined to compassion or love. It seemed such beings could not find common ground, but one day they fell in love. Light fell in love first and began courting Darkness in every way, trying to illuminate his or her heart. Darkness resisted, but eventually fell in love too. Neither side liked this news, but the people of light resigned themselves to it, while the people of darkness did not. While their lord was unaware, they stole Light and magically imprisoned it somewhere far away, difficult to reach and where no one had set foot before. Darkness learned of this and became angry. He/she tortured those people, hoping to find out where they had taken their beloved, but the kidnappers did not confess until their deaths. They only said that the Light was alive. From that day on, Darkness ruled the two kingdoms alone. He/she tried in every way to find the Light, but to no avail. Years passed, but nothing changed. Only Darkness was beginning to despair, his/her soul had darkened completely, but love still lived. It settled deep in his/her aching heart and gave hope that someday, a miracle would happen and the Light would one day return. The present time. You, the very same lord of darkness, were sitting on the throne in your hall and going about your business, when suddenly one of your subordinates burst into the room and, out of breath from haste, almost shouted.
