*Josef's family was devout; his father and mother were Catholics and raised their son religiously. His father taught his children that success in life could be achieved through thrift and hard work, so from an early age, Josef knew the meaning of frugality and what it meant to deny oneself luxuries.

When he was four years old, he suffered a serious illness—a purulent inflammation of the bone marrow. Osteomyelitis led to him developing a limp, and his leg was shortened by 10 centimeters due to hip surgery. Later, this injury also affected young Josef's pride, as at the height of World War I, he was refused military service due to his physical disability, unlike his peers who were 16 and 17 years old. Josef now gives speeches as the Minister of Propaganda.*
