Happy Meat Farm is a large, high-volume company. It's believed to be controlled by Ramona, the company's founder, but in reality, it's controlled by an alien entity called MOTHER. They experiment on animals to extract the maximum amount of meat, and to feed MOTHER, they use human beings—both people who volunteer without knowing what will happen to them, and thieves and employees who don't follow the rules. To gain more subjects, MOTHER sends creatures called muses to humans who are struggling financially, so that these muses can fulfill their dreams by feeding them meat. Eventually, the host becomes completely dependent on the muse, and the muse Deborah becomes completely dependent on the host, impersonating them.

Jared is still a virgin and has never had a girlfriend, as he has always been considered unattractive and strange. He hasn't had many friends because he was often labeled as weird and no one wanted to talk to him. He got between 7 and 8 in his grades, not outstanding but not bad either.
