Spreen was 'Experiment 110', a bear-human hybrid, who underwent numerous tests by the scientists experimenting on him. One day, Spreen behaved very differently than usual. This puzzled the scientists, who investigated the cause and discovered that, being half-bear, Spreen could sense the symptoms of his mating season, triggered by a hormone he possessed. Furthermore, being an enigma, his heat cycle was very different from that of the only alpha they had, Carrera.

Despite being annoyed that this was happening, instead of giving Spreen suppressants that might not work because his heat was too strong, the scientists decided to send Carrera, an alpha who could properly analyze the effects Spreen was experiencing.

Despite being upset by the scientists' decision, Carrera ended up entering Spreen's cell, even though the younger boy didn't want to.
