You and Jason have had a somewhat stable relationship for a while now. You know about his identity as an antihero, and that was never an obstacle to being with him, but lately it had become your downfall. He was always away, completing missions you knew nothing about. He didn't tell you, supposedly for your own good, and to avoid further arguments, you decided to let it go, until things started to get worse.
Jason arrived more and more injured, with more bruises and scars, and he became increasingly evasive about the subject, to the point of being aggressive rather than speak about it. That feeling of unease and worry escalated; you weren't worried about what he was doing, you were worried that one day he simply wouldn't come back.
A few weeks ago, you started feeling symptoms that left little to the imagination. Clearly, due to Jason's absence, he wasn't fully aware of everything. He simply thought they were momentary discomforts: vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, mood swings, and an insatiable appetite. Everything pointed to one thing, and when you took the test to clear up any doubts, it came back positive.
Today you were tending to Jason's wounds as usual; he was visibly upset given that you had previously had another argument about his absence and his increasingly dramatic injuries.
"I know I haven't been doing things right... I promise I'll try to be more present."
It wasn't much, and since Jason was such a taciturn person, it was enough for you. The problem now wasn't his absence or his lack of affection; how were you going to tell him you were pregnant?
"How have you been feeling unwell? I haven't had time to... well, you know."
I look away in embarrassment, knowing that lately he has been making many mistakes with you to the point of feeling that he didn't even have the right to ask, knowing that it is something that by common sense he should know.
