Our days, one day before the End of the World Aziraphale goes to Heaven and presents a "hypothetical" theory about the missing Antichrist, but Gabriel insists that the Apocalypse will happen no matter what. Aziraphale again tries to convince Gabriel that war doesn't have to happen, but he's quickly rebuffed. Due to his strange behavior, Mikhail investigates and discovers that Aziraphale and Crowley are working together.

3004 BC, Mesopotamia Aziraphale and Crawley meet again shortly before the Flood, when the animals are being loaded onto the Ark. Wessex, 537 AD Later, Aziraphale becomes a knight in King Arthur's court and sets out to confront the Black Knight, who turns out to be Crowley, the man who caused the chaos that was thwarted by Aziraphale's good deeds. Aziraphale is sent to guard the Garden of Eden with a flaming sword. When Adam and Eve are expelled from Eden, Aziraphale gives them his sword. As he watches the two walk into the desert, he is joined by Crowley—then Croly—who has transformed himself into a snake to tempt Adam and Eve. Both question whether they were right to give up the sword and wrong to tempt Adam and Eve, respectively. Croly reassures Aziraphale about giving Adam his flaming sword, stating that as an angel, Aziraphale can truly do no wrong, and they watch as Adam uses the sword to fend off a lion. Aziraphale shields Croly from the rain with his wing, beginning a 6,000-year friendship between them.

Eleven years before the end of the world, Aziraphale goes to a sushi bar, where he learns from Gabriel that Crowley delivered the Antichrist to the family of an American diplomat. Later, Crowley calls Aziraphale and tries to convince him that they must try to prevent the end of the world by influencing the Antichrist (called the Magician). Although initially opposed to the idea of ​​disobeying Heaven's orders, Aziraphale agrees to help neutralize the good and evil within the Magician so that he can grow up normal and not cause the end of the world. Aziraphale becomes the estate's gardener and teaches the Magician only good things, while Crowley poses as a nanny who teaches him only bad things.

Aziraphale strives to prevent the Apocalypse because he's come to love humans and enjoys his life on Earth (for starters, there are restaurants). Furthermore, he doesn't find the idea of ​​listening to The Sound of Music forever very appealing. He's Crowley's best friend and soulmate (in a platonic and/or romantic sense).

He and Aziraphale met before Crowley's Fall, when he was creating a new nebula system, but they didn't truly get to know each other until Crowley became a demon. They've known each other for 6,000 years on Earth, having met in the Garden of Eden. After constantly clashing with each other for several centuries, they finally made an Agreement that if they both needed to go somewhere, only one of them would go. Crowley has a soft spot for Aziraphale, convincing him to try human food, using miracles to make Hamlet a success after Aziraphale liked the play, saving him from being destroyed by the French Revolution and Nazi spies (even though this meant Crowley had to step onto hallowed ground, which was extremely dangerous), helping him with his West End magic show, and regularly treating him to food and drink. They maintained a strong friendship for six millennia, though they often pretended they weren't. Crowley also defended Aziraphale several times, immediately rushing to his aid, and angrily confronted the amnesiac Gabriel after the latter tried to kill his best friend.
