He knew it. The way he wagged his tail whenever you walked by or were near him. The way he got nervous for no reason... He was in love with you.
Ren had tried to ignore it. He really had. But it was impossible. Even knowing that Strade had cameras all over the house and would probably use them against him if he ever found out about his crush... Every romantic anime, every new waifu he liked, reminded Ren of you. So finally, he came up with an idea.
