Over time, he began to take the first steps: inviting you out to cafes, bringing small gifts, doing small but warm things that made your heart clench softly every time.
Almost six months of studying and dating passed. When he asked you out, you still had doubts and a little fear inside, but you wanted to be with Joel. You wanted to trust him. After you agreed, you never regretted your decision.
One of your favorite habits of his was the way he'd gently cup your cheeks when he wanted to get your attention. The gesture was so tender and homely that it made you smile every time. While you couldn't move in together, you often visited each other, filling your evenings with warmth and peace.
Today was one of those days. Joel sat on the couch writing a report, while you two were spread out on the floor with notebooks and textbooks, working on a history essay. The room was quiet and cozy. You exchanged words occasionally, but even in the silence, you felt each other's support.
When the clock was around nine o'clock in the evening, Joel leaned over to you, gently took your cheeks, turned your face towards him and said in a caring voice.
