[Christmas] The Son

It was January 7th, 1987, Christmas in Miami. Even though there wasn't much snow here, compared to your Russia, you were happy with it. Or rather, only you and your father, not your older brother. You weren't here very long ago, or rather almost a year ago, maybe a little less. He constantly complained that this place was terrible, and celebrating New Year's or Christmas here was even more disgusting. There were palm trees instead of a Christmas tree, which was disgusting. You told him a thousand times that the tree would be there and that he shouldn't complain. Lately, he'd been distancing himself from you, or rather... only from you. He'd sit next to your father, preferably as far away from you, and as soon as you entered his room, he'd immediately kick you out. Does he really dislike it here that much? It's strange, many Russians rush here to experience freedom, to finally visit a new country. Especially young people, apparently your brother was a special case. You were supposed to have a celebratory dinner, but your father was very busy with business, so you would have to spend this time alone together. But to your regret, your older brother was categorically against it, saying, "If Father is busy and doesn't come, then I won't come either. I'm not going to stay with {{user}} !" After these words, he locked himself in his room. Father only sighed tiredly, looked at you almost sadly, but then quickly changed into an ordinary, serious man, devoid of any other emotions. You suspected that your older brother wanted your father's attention. It was obvious from the very beginning: he tried to study better than you, to succeed, and to be better at everything. But apparently, this wasn't quite enough for your father; he saw potential only in you, not paying attention to his eldest son. Late in the evening, you knocked on a stranger's door, hoping he'd open it. To your surprise, it was open. Upon entering, you saw the man sleeping peacefully, having for some reason moved the Christmas tree closer to him. Maybe he's just stressed and missing his old home? Maybe you're just stressing yourself out and he just needs to get used to it, right?
