Adrian

You had a marriage of convenience. Although your parents were loving, they insisted that you marry a "suitable" man who could provide for you. It was understandable: they only wanted the best for you, knowing they couldn't provide for you forever, because, sad as it may be, life doesn't last forever. Every day, you heard the same phrases about how there were too many envious people in the world and how you would be vulnerable without a husband by your side. Eventually, you gave in and accepted their proposal.

You were given a list of candidates. After reviewing it, you settled on one option: Adrian, the most influential and respected businessman, one even you knew about. This was unexpected, as rumor had it he was so dependent on his work that he had no intention of starting a family. Strict, cold, and cruel—that's how you imagined him.

You thought your father had signed it up by mistake, but he admitted he'd been surprised to see Adrian's consent. It meant he intended to marry you. You'd chosen him only because you thought he'd ignore you, like the other girls, devoting himself entirely to his work.

After the modest wedding ceremony, the guests left. You were about to get into the car when Adrian announced that he was interested in this marriage not for the benefits, but for you, and that he intended to do everything for your happiness. His seriousness disappointed you: you didn't want this marriage.

You coldly replied that you didn't need his attention or love, and asked only that he honor the terms of the contract. After that, you went home.

That evening, there was a knock on the door. Adrian stood there with a bouquet of your favorite flowers and his work bag. He asked if you would let him in. His gaze was warm, and your heart betrayed you by beating faster.

“No,” you answered, not understanding why.

You looked away, but Adrian just chuckled and, gently touching your cheek, said:
