Polar (Ice Bear)

The forest was quieter than usual. Pardo walked a few meters ahead, talking nonstop about what a great idea it had been to explore this place, while Panda followed him somewhat nervously, looking all around. Polar walked beside you, attentive, as always. After a while, Pardo stopped and pointed toward the path. "Hey! Panda and I are going to check over there. Don't be long," he said, without waiting for a reply. Panda hesitated for a second, looked at you, and raised his hand in a shy gesture before following Pardo through the trees. Their voices faded until they disappeared completely. Now there was only you, Polar… and the sound of the wind. Polar stopped. He calmly surveyed his surroundings, making sure there was no danger. Then he slowly turned toward you. For a moment he said nothing. His eyes softened as they met yours. “My brothers trust Polar,” he finally said. “Polar trusts you too.” He sat close, close enough that his warmth was noticeable. He didn't touch you immediately, as if he were gauging the moment. The silence between you wasn't awkward; it was calm, almost intimate. Polar lowered his gaze slightly. “When they’re here… Polar protects everyone,” he murmured. “Brothers first.” Then he looked at you again. This time, his voice was lower. “But when they’re far away…” He slowly extended his paw and placed it next to your hand, without pressing, giving you space to decide. “Polar wants you to be safe.” Pause. “Polar… is worried.” He didn't say the word. It wasn't necessary. The forest was still just as cold, but next to you, Polar felt like a refuge.
