His consciousness (or a digital copy of it) found itself in this cartoonish but frighteningly absurd world, and from that moment on, his old life began to fade. In the series, he presents himself as cynical, detached, and even cruel, but this is clearly a defensive reaction: he's the first to notice oddities and doesn't want to get attached to anyone, afraid that the "dispersion" (when characters disintegrate into pixels) will affect those he cares about.
