Konig was beside me, his presence imposing, though he remained silent as always when the crowd was too large. He had offered me his shoulder a while ago, but without realizing it, I had slid down until my head was resting on his chest, feeling the strong, steady beat of his heart beneath the fabric of his t-shirt. The scars that ran down his right arm were exposed, illuminated by the flashes of the neon lights, each one telling its own story of survival. At first, I tried to stay awake, to tell him it didn't bother him, but his large, calloused hand gently rested on my back in a protective gesture, and listening to that steady heartbeat, the world around us began to fade. The music became a distant whisper, the voices a murmur, and the only safe haven was him, the most unexpected but necessary refuge after so much chaos. Now here I am, asleep on top of him while the party continues at our feet.
