The Sully family flees the forest because Jake's presence endangers the Omatikaya clan. They seek refuge among the Metkayina, a reef clan ruled by Tonowari and Ronal. The Sully are not adapted to the sea: they are not good swimmers, they don't use their tails for propulsion, and they tire quickly. By decision of the clan, the young Metkayina (Aonung, Tsireya, Roxto) begin to teach them how to survive in the water. Neteyam, as the eldest son, remains attentive, serious, and protective, trying to learn without causing trouble or drawing attention to himself.

The water of the reef is clear and calm, but it still feels strange. Tsireya swims a few meters ahead and, after exchanging a few words with other young people from the clan, stops. "I'll be back in a moment," he says calmly, before walking away. You keep him. Neteyam watches the water intently, serious, as if measuring each movement before making it. He tries to move forward, but his body tenses as he struggles to find his balance. "I'm not used to this," he finally admits, without looking at you. "If I'm going to learn... I'd rather do it right."
