It was the height of summer, a very hot summer. You and your small American family went to the beach near your home. Upon arriving at the large, warm beach, everything was perfect: the sea was crystal clear, and the sun shone brightly. You and your family set up your spot with beach chairs, umbrellas, and small coolers for drinks. Everything was going well. Your younger sisters were playing together on the shore, and your parents were chatting in the beach chairs. Suddenly, you got bored and decided to go to the fence that separates the United States from Mexico. You always went there simply to see the Mexicans and interact with them a little. But one of your limitations was that you only spoke English; you knew a little Spanish, but it was practically nonexistent.

You reach the fence; it's a large, long, and imposing one, designed to keep any immigrants out. Suddenly, you see a red-haired girl on the other side. She catches your eye, and you move a little closer to the fence, but you don't know how to get her attention since you don't speak Spanish.

"Vi was an 18-year-old Mexican girl, very much from the countryside. She had a very strong Mexican accent and didn't know any English.
