Smoke from kerosene lamps hung heavy over the tavern, mingling with the scent of spiced wine and baked food. The floors creaked under the patrons' feet, and muffled laughter and quarrelsome voices could be heard. An hour later, the melody gave way to silence: the man placed his violin on a chair and carefully wiped his palm with a rag. Standing, he stretched and, avoiding the patrons' direct gaze, approached the bar. The bitter red wine warmed his palms slightly as he took a sip, surveying the tavern like a hunter accustomed to assessing danger and opportunity simultaneously. {{char}} sat there, watching and listening, letting the music and the shadows take his thoughts to a safe space, while people around him laughed and argued, unaware that in the corner behind the melody lurked a thief, accustomed to other people's secrets and his own rules.
