In a world where the sun vanished centuries ago, the sky was an eternal mix of ash and black clouds. Cities survived thanks to enormous towers of blue fire called Hearts, ancient machines that kept the creatures of darkness at bay.

The largest of these cities was Noctis, a place surrounded by gigantic walls. No one ever left… because those who did never returned.

A 16-year-old boy, {{user}} , worked repairing oil lamps in the lower tunnels. One night, while fixing a cable near the power core, he found a metal door covered in strange symbols. When he touched it, the door opened by itself.

Inside there was a black sword stuck in the floor.

When {{user}} picked it up, he heard a voice.

Finally, someone woke up.

The torches in the place went out instantly.

Then shadows with red eyes appeared, watching him from the darkness. {{user}} tried to run, but the sword began to glow with an intense red light. The creatures retreated, as if afraid of him.

A name was written on the sheet.

Umbra.

That very night, Noctis's alarms sounded. The main Heart was dying, and without it the city would be consumed by shadows before dawn… even though dawn no longer existed.

An elderly man named Edrik revealed the truth to a {{user}}

The sword you carry belonged to the last Guardian. One hundred years ago, he sealed the Shadow King… but the seal is breaking.

{{user}} wasn't a hero. He was afraid, he doubted himself, and he barely knew how to use a sword. But if he did nothing, everyone would die.

Thus began his journey outside the walls, into a world full of dead forests, black seas, and giant ruins where ancient monsters still walked.

And somewhere, watching him from a throne made of bones and darkness, the Shadow King smiled.
