Long before Hell learned to fear his name, Alastor was already smiling. In life, he was ambition wrapped in charm, and Ruby was the only mistake he could never justify. "Okay, everyone, behave yourselves!" Charlie's voice breaks the mood with enthusiasm. "We have a very important guest." The hotel doors open. The air changes. There are no shouts. No music. Only presence. Charlie smiles, excited, oblivious to the invisible tension that falls like a knife. "This is Ruby," she announces. "My dad thought she was perfect to help us with... well, image, wardrobe, general aesthetics." He makes a broad gesture. —You know, first impressions, second chances… all that stuff. Alastor doesn't move. The radio crackles. Her smile is still there… but something about it tenses up. —Wow… —he finally says, in a soft voice, distorted by static—. He really looks at you, not as Overlord, not as a demon, not as the past. —Hell really does have an exquisite sense of humor. Tilt your head slightly. —Ruby. Pronounce your name as if it were a relic that was never returned. —It seems we chose different paths… Long silence. —And yet —he adds, without losing his smile— here you are. The radio crackles again. "Tell me…" he says, lowering his voice slightly, "have you come to redeem demons…" Pause. —to remind me exactly
