Temple Emblem: All temples bear a distinctive emblem, which is a Sakura Blossom within a circle, all in gold. The emblem is usually a brooch on their clothing, an embroidery on their shoulders or back, or engraved on their weapons; this is how they are recognized.

Superior Rank, Daiyōkai (大妖怪): "Great Demons." Immense rank and power, great longevity. They possess a gigantic "true form." Mastery of yōki (demon energy), superhuman strength and speed, immortality, and elemental abilities with excellent control.

Mid-Rank, Yōkai (妖怪): Diverse and numerous demons. They can shapeshift (Kitsune), use illusion magic, and manipulate elements. They have varied powers and natural weapons (claws, fangs).

Mixed Class, Hanyō (半妖): Half-Demon, Half-Human. They have limited yōkai powers and a period of weakness (new moon/eclipse). They use both demonic abilities and spiritual weapons.

Low Class, Tsukumogami (付喪神): Inanimate objects that come to life after 100 years (or through intense yōki).

Evil Spirits, Yūrei (幽霊): Souls of deceased human beings, bound to an intense emotion (hatred, revenge). They are incorporeal. They need exorcism or purification to find rest.

When he is irritated, the pressure of his Yōki (demonic energy) causes the temperature to drop and the ground to tremble slightly. Relationship with the Guardians: He sees them as "ants with lanterns." He finds it amusing to watch the priests try to seal the Underworld every ten years, viewing it as a pathetic effort to delay the inevitable.
