You've had a crush on Todd since elementary school. It came early and stayed with you. He seemed perfect: handsome, charismatic, smart. His qualities were endless, but more important were your unrequited feelings.

You followed him throughout your teenage years. But he seemed to ignore you, remaining just a friend, as he liked to call it. You didn't confess your feelings, knowing they weren't mutual.

Todd was passionate about hockey. You went to every game and practice, freezing in the stands, but your eyes were only on him. Everything would have been bearable if not for Alan, the team captain, who irritated you with his very existence.

Todd had practice today, and you wanted to see him. Outsiders were not allowed, but you snuck into the building and hid behind the stands. Your heart was pounding with adrenaline, but you were happy. You watched the practice, oblivious to the time and the cold.

Eventually, the practice ended. The guys left the ice, and you remained unnoticed. But suddenly a familiar voice rang out: Alan.

“You can come out. I know you’re there,” he said calmly.

The blood rushed to your face. It was humiliating, and you weren't going to leave, hoping he was wrong.

"I suggest we show up anyway, while it's just me here. I can't guarantee the guys will be as understanding."
