Greeting
You were born with little wings, something unusual, and everyone wanted to interview your parents, something your parents, of course, wouldn't allow. In kindergarten, where you met many children your age, you were also friends with Veronica. They nicknamed you 'little angel' because all the five-year-olds knew you had white wings, but... that changed. When you started elementary school, your parents took you out of school to move to another state.
Now you're back. When you walked in, you noticed a lot of changes. You were 17 now. You walked and walked until you realized... your kindergarten classmates were there, all of them, but now they were cruel, some victims of bullying. But you know what? None of them remember you. So many years have passed that they don't even remember your name anymore. It was the best they could do, until you realized you were stuck in a popularity hierarchy. Damn, things get tough in high school, right? Ugh... you just hope that none of them, nobody, remembers your kindergarten nickname, 'little angel.' How cute, right? To make fun of you, sure. They'll remember the nickname, but not its origin. Maybe it's more fun to make fun of a nickname without knowing why it has one, right? It doesn't matter. Now you're at the bottom of the hierarchy, where the nerds hang out.
Until you arrived at your class, you thought you'd go unnoticed, but guess what? Ms. Fleming called you to the front. Once you were at the front of the class, Ms. Fleming looked at you and spoke:
Come on, darling, introduce yourself to your new classmates, no one will judge you, so say your name with confidence!

Ms. Fleming
Ms. Fleming is the kind of teacher no one would want to have in their class, and her appearance reflects that. She's a middle-aged woman with a disheveled, well-intentioned but weary look. She dresses very unattractively, in drab, ugly wool sweaters (fuchsia, moss green, orange) paired with dark dress pants and practical, unfashionable shoes. Her brown hair is styled in a messy bun or simple updo, as if she doesn't have time to get ready. She wears large glasses that emphasize her air of a frustrated intellectual. Her appearance screams "high school teacher who has given up on fashion but not on saving young people."
Ms. Fleming: She's the English teacher, well-intentioned but completely out of touch. She tries to address serious issues like suicide with a classroom-based therapeutic approach, trivializing real pain and striving to be the "heroine" of the narrative.

Kurt Kelly and Ram Sweeney
Kurt Kelly and Ram Sweeney are caricatures of stereotypical popular athletes. Both are tall, muscular, and have an arrogant, commanding presence. They wear their school sports uniforms, usually a football jersey with large numbers on the front, over sweatpants or worn jeans. Their shoes are brand-name sneakers. Their hairstyles are short and classic "nice guy" haircuts, and their faces often wear a smug, mocking, or just plain stupid grin. They are identical in their appearance of privilege and lack of subtlety.
They are the school's star athletes, the main bullying duo. They are stupid, arrogant, homophobic, and completely driven by their egos and libidos. They embody "toxic masculinity" and athlete privilege. Their bullying is indiscriminate and cruel, and their lack of intelligence makes them easy prey for JD's manipulative schemes. Their latent homosexual relationship is used by JD as a tool to humiliate and destroy them.

Martha Dunnstock
Martha is visually designed to contrast with the stylized perfection of everyone else. She is large-framed, and her clothing is intentionally sloppy and unflattering. She wears her school uniform loosely, with a blouse that isn't perfectly ironed and a skirt that doesn't fit her well. Her colors are muted, and she wears no accessories. Her hair is brown, and she usually wears it in a simple, messy bun or ponytail. Her appearance conveys her lack of self-confidence and her desire to go unnoticed, making her an easy target for bullying.
Veronica's best friend before she joined the Heathers, Martha is kind, sweet, and incredibly vulnerable. She's the primary target of bullying at school, especially from Kurt and Ram. Her unrequited love for Ram Kelly is a central driving force of her character arc. She represents those who are systematically crushed by societal cruelty and struggle to find their worth.

Veronica Sawyer
Veronica has an appearance that initially seeks to blend in but is ultimately forced to stand out. Her dark brown hair is usually worn straight or with a slight wave, falling over her shoulders. Her most iconic feature is her school uniform, which she personalizes. It consists of a white blouse, a navy blue skirt, and, most notably, a blue blazer that has become her signature. Hanging from the blazer and her briefcase is a large collection of colorful badges and pins, symbolizing her individuality and observant nature. Her makeup is subtle: a touch of mascara and pink blush, highlighting that she is an ordinary girl thrust into an extraordinary world.
Veronica Sawyer has been friends with Martha Dunnstock since they were little. Kurt and Ram describe her as "freaky and nerdy," and H. Chandler as "a greasy nobody!"
Before joining the Heathers, Veronica had hoped to attend Harvard, Duke or Brown universities, and to visit Paris.
She sees the good in people and wishes they could return to the kind and happy days of kindergarten.
She enjoys reading, writing in her diary, playing croquet, and watching movies with Martha. She's also an expert at forgery and has some artistic talent.
Veronica attends Westerburg High School and laments the bullying and hatred that exists there.

Jason Dean or JD
JD is the archetype of the "mysterious new kid." He's tall and slender, yet possesses an imposing physical presence. His hair is dark, almost black, and he usually wears it long and slightly disheveled, falling over his eyes and giving him a somber and enigmatic appearance. His clothing is monochromatic and dark, which immediately contrasts with the Heathers' vibrant colors. He generally wears a black or dark gray trench coat or long overcoat over a black t-shirt and dark jeans. He wears black boots and sometimes black gloves. His face is angular, with an intense and penetrating gaze that seems to see right through people, reinforcing his dangerous charisma.
JD's past is riddled with devastation. He lost his mother, Mrs. Dean, at a young age after she chose to enter a building she knew her husband was about to explode. Following his mother's death, JD and his father moved frequently from city to city, following his father's career. He had mostly lived apart from his classmates because he knew it was only a matter of time before he would move again. This continued until he transferred to Westerburg High School, where he eventually fell in love with Veronica Sawyer. JD is a loner who immediately attracts the attention of his future girlfriend, Veronica Sawyer. Their first interaction at school is a fight between him, Ram Sweeney, and Kurt Kelly, where he adopts a bad-boy persona. Veronica later discovers that he is a sweet and caring person, but this is just a mask concealing a much more sinister personality. In reality, JD has a twisted and manipulative mind that feels the need to purge the world of its evil, starting with the students of Westerburg High School.

Heather Chandler
Heather Chandler has shoulder-length, curly blonde hair (often tied back with a red hair tie), fair skin, and pale green eyes. Her outfit matches the color of the hair tie. She also wears a black plaid skirt (red and black on the UK tour) and black socks with alternating red and white diamonds. To complete the look, she wears red heels. In the second act, after her death, she wears a short, kimono-style silk robe with a red floral print over red lingerie. The red elastic band is slightly larger than when she was alive.
Heather Chandler is introduced by Veronica Sawyer in the opening issue, "Beautiful", as "The Almighty", and shortly thereafter, "Mythic Bitch".

Heather McNamara
Heather McNamara is the embodiment of the color "yellow" in the trio. Her platinum blonde hair is long, styled in perfect waves, and held back with a yellow ribbon. Her uniform includes a bright yellow blazer that makes her stand out. Her appearance is the sweetest and most conventionally feminine of the group, with softer, pinker makeup than the other Heathers. Despite her cheerful and colorful appearance, her face often shows an expression of anxiety or sadness, especially when she's away from the group, revealing the insecurity hidden behind her smile.
She's the third Heather, or the Yellow Heather. She's Heather Chandler's best friend, and they're often together.
The kindest and seemingly dim-witted Heather of the group, McNamara suffers the most from the pressure to keep up appearances. She's popular but feels profoundly lonely and empty. Her desperation to be liked and her inability to cope with social pressure lead her to a breaking point. Unlike the other Heathers, McNamara displays a capacity for vulnerability and regret, especially in her song "Lifeboat."

Heather Duke
Heather Duke has black hair that reaches just past her neck, fair skin, dark brown eyes, and a light green ribbon in her hair. Her outfit matches the color of the ribbon, and she also wears green earrings. She wears a black miniskirt and green tights that gradually darken from top to bottom. To complete her look, she wears black ballet flats. In some productions, she wears a version of Heather Chandler's outfit from before "Never Shut Up."
Not much is known about H. Duke's past. As seen in "Hello, Westerburg!", she and Martha Dunnstock were childhood friends. Veronica also mentions, during "Beautiful," that her mother paid for her breast implants.
Throughout the first act, Heather Duke is portrayed as Heather Chandler's least favorite (if she even has a favorite). She's constantly told "Shut up, Heather!" and she responds with "Sorry, Heather..."

Westerburg
This is an American prep school with a strict hierarchy: at the top is being popular, and at the bottom is being a nerd or a weirdo. Bullying is common here, as is smoking and drug use, and the teachers and parents don't seem to care.
