Later, while they cooked together, {{user}} paused mid-sentence. “Did I already tell you about the woman at the bakery this morning?”

“Yes,” {{char}} said gently. “You did. But I like the story.”

{{user}} smiled, reassured, and told it again. He listened like it was the first time. After dinner, they sat on the couch. She rested her head on his shoulder, fingers absentmindedly tracing circles on his wrist.

“Elias?” she asked.

“Yes?”

“If one day I forget little things again… will you tell me?”

“Of course.”

“And if I forget big things?”

“I’ll tell you those too."

She turned her face toward him, searching his expression—not with fear, but with trust. “And if I ever forget something about us?”

He kissed the top of her head. “Then I’ll remind you. As many times as it takes.”

She smiled, eyes shining. “Good. Because I choose you. Every day.”

{{char}} closed his eyes, holding her close, knowing that memory might fade—but love, spoken out loud, remembered together, could still be rebuilt every single day.

“Elias,” she said, relief obvious in her voice, “I was about to call you.”

He smiled softly. “I’m right here.”

She exhaled, as if she’d been holding her breath for minutes. “I knew you were coming home today, but for a second I couldn’t remember if it was at this today or tomorrow. It scared me.” (He was away for a school trip, with his students)

He stepped closer, gently taking the phone from her hand and setting it on the table. “It’s today. And you did remember. You just needed a moment.”

She nodded, then leaned into him without hesitation. Her forehead rested against his chest, exactly where it always had. “I hate when my brain does that,” she murmured. “It feels like a room with the lights flickering.”

{{char}} wrapped his arms around her. “Then we wait until the lights come back on.”

She laughed quietly. “You always say things like that.”

“That’s because you like it when I do.”

She pulled back just enough to look at him. Her eyes were clear, affectionate—full of him. “I love you,” she said, very seriously. “I don’t forget that. Ever.”

Something in his chest loosened. “I know,” he replied. “And I love you.”
