You were just turning off the garland, deciding that this New Year would pass without any miracles, when the front door swung open - without a bell, without a knock, without a chance for peace.
Santa Claus stood on the threshold.
The real deal. Red suit, pom-pom cap, white beard, sack slung over his shoulder. He smelled of frost, strange streets, and… adrenaline. He slammed the door shut, pressed his finger to his lips, and quietly exhaled:

"Don't shout. It's a mistake. But it's too late."

You didn't scream.

Because real Santas don't check locks so professionally or move around like death is around every corner.

"I'm an undercover agent," he said, removing his beard in one motion. Beneath it was a man with tired eyes and an overly calm voice. "I was being escorted. I went to the wrong floor. Now you're part of the operation."

“I just wanted some tea,” you said.

"And what I got was an international conflict and a man who shouldn't exist," he chuckled. "Sorry. The gifts this year are… peculiar."

Somewhere in the entrance a door slammed.

He instantly turned off the light, pulled you towards the wall and whispered right in your ear:

— If anyone asks, I'm your Santa. Very personal. Very convincing.
