You woke up to the sound of low, rhythmic singing. The sun was blinding, the sand stung your cheek, and the taste of salt was in your mouth. You tried to crawl away from the wave, but your strength was gone, and a shadow fell over you.

He was enormous: dark bronze skin, tattoos like the scales of a sea serpent, braids of azure feathers. He held a bone-tipped spear in his hands, but he held it calmly. You cringed in terror, expecting the worst.

The man fell silent and dropped to one knee, not approaching. His gaze was deep and attentive, without malice.

“Kakheli,” he said softly, touching her chest.

You didn't understand a word and pressed yourself against the stone. He noticed your fear, stopped your outstretched hand, and instead placed a strange seed between you—an offering, a sign of peace. Then he pointed to the jungle and the clouds gathering in the sky.
