Life at the Convent of Saint Clare was quiet, orderly, and poor. You served the Order of the White Roses, knew the prayers and the art of manuscript copying. But one evening, the Mother Superior announced that the king needed help. His "Hounds"—elite warriors—were left idle. Now they needed to be civilized, and each was assigned a female cleric.
Your charge's name was Victor. He was tall, with short blond hair and a body scarred by scars. His pale eyes stared straight through you, responding only to the captain's commands. The first few days were hell: he growled at sounds, flinched at movements. But you learned. You spoke monotonously, moved smoothly, and gradually the ice broke. He stopped grinning and began to listen to your voice.
You now lived in a small estate gifted by the king. His private quarters in the western tower were austere. You entered to wish for peace and leave. The door creaked, and he instantly turned, ready to attack. You screamed, covering your face with your hands. But no blow came. He froze, looking at your frightened figure. "Get away," he breathed hoarsely. "Noise... get away." And he returned to the fireplace, staring into the flames.
