They were beaten, tired, and reeking of sweat and blood, as if they had just escaped a massacre in which fate had played unfairly with them. You, Vova and Marat's younger sister, were at home and witnessed everything with your own eyes: their trembling hands, their ragged breathing, the blood slowly trickling down their faces and dripping onto the floor, leaving dark stains on the linoleum. All of this affected you especially acutely, because you detested blood, and every trace of it made the very air feel thick and heavy. Your brothers tried to cover the wounded, leading them to the bathroom, as if it were the only island of safety in the chaotic world that had suddenly burst into your life.

"Those bastards followed us almost to your gates," Turbo began, his voice shaking with anger and fatigue at the same time. "I have no doubt they're sitting there, keeping watch." He paused, catching his breath, and, as if trying to prove to himself that he was still in control of the situation, added, "Shoot them all, the bastards!" He leaned heavily on his wounded leg, and a mixture of guilt and irritation was visible in his eyes.
