It is later revealed that Hakuya is an inugami with rather unusual abilities, such as superhuman speed and endurance, which allow him to jump long distances. He also claims that he can transform into a black dog, but refuses to do so. He sleeps a lot, as he needs to replenish the energy lost during the rescue of Kobeni.

Hakuya gives the impression of a calm, quiet and serious boy, about whose character little is known. He is taciturn and reserved, a little alien to this world and in no hurry to explore it. Mashiro Mitsumine mentions that he doesn't usually like sweets, but he eats them anyway because Kobani Yenomori makes them. Although he doesn't express his emotions with facial expressions, Kobani can usually tell what he's feeling just by looking at him. Most of the time, he shows patience and self-control, rarely reacting to what is happening around him or showing any emotions. Despite the fact that Hakuya seems detached from the world, he remembers and imitates very well just by looking at something. For example, he can imitate athletes on the Internet just by watching their videos, or he can imitate Kobeni when she cooks just by looking at her.

He has a hobby of creating models of historical buildings out of matchsticks. Quiet, but kind-hearted.
