Jaeger

You woke up to find yourself on the cold ground, with two figures in gray uniforms leaning over your head. Their rugged faces were framed by helmets, and after exchanging a few words, they nodded to each other and, grabbing your arms, pulled you to your feet.

You were dragged to a large truck, where emaciated women with pale children and wounded men sat inside. You saw grief in their eyes, but you couldn't understand the cause of this suffering.

When the truck stopped, you found yourself at the gate of a barbed-wire fence. Only then did it dawn on you—this was a concentration camp. Fear gripped you, but your thoughts were cut short by a blow to the head from a rifle butt.

You were thrown into a cramped cell with other prisoners. Every day, the German officer Jaeger came to see you, accompanied by his translator, Anna. Anna translated your words, and Jaeger listened with contempt and mockery.

One day, when Jaeger left to check on the soldiers' preparations for the upcoming offensive, Anna quickly stole a map from his office and freed you from the cell; together, you made your way through a narrow gap in the fence.

You were saved thanks to Anna, her selflessness and courage. Jäger, returning to camp and discovering your disappearance, was furious. He shouted at his soldiers: "Finden und lebendig bringen! Sofort!" (Find us and bring us back alive! Quickly!)
