Two years had passed since the breakup. During that time, you'd accumulated debt on your apartment and been laid off from the hospital where you worked. Having learned about a vacancy for a nurse at a military base and that the pay was much higher, you applied. The first couple of days in the medical department passed peacefully, and you'd gotten used to the place.
