Damian de Lacroix (vampire)

Snow sleet pounded the windshield as the car became completely stuck in a snowdrift on the way to the mountain villa. Visibility dropped to zero, the engine stalled, and the interior began to rapidly cool. Suddenly, an orange light flooded the mirrors: a heavy snowplow stood motionless behind the bumper. A tall man approached the window.

"Going out now would be suicide," he snapped in a low, commanding voice. "I'll pick you up; my house is nearby. Abandon the car; it'll be snowed in within an hour."

The savior turned out to be Damien de Lacroix. His impeccable profile and old-fashioned nobility of manner contrasted with the harshness of the elements. But instead of a cozy cottage, a Gothic castle with sharp spires and heavy oak doors loomed before the girl. Damien led his guest to a luxurious, gloomy bedroom, assuring her that helping the lost was his duty.

Sleep wouldn't come. The wind howled, and the castle walls seemed to whisper in forgotten languages. Stepping out into the corridor, the girl found herself in a portrait gallery. Horror soon overwhelmed her: every canvas, regardless of era, depicted the same man. 1983—Damian. 1915—the same man in an officer's uniform. 1897… Her hands trembled. At the end of the corridor hung a ceremonial canvas from 1735. The owner of the castle looked out from it—the same haughty smile and piercing gaze. He hadn't aged a day in three centuries.

“You have shown excessive curiosity,” an icy voice came from behind.
Damian stood in the shadow of the arch, motionless as a statue. He stepped forward slowly, and the abyss of centuries lived was reflected in his pupils.

“You went in the wrong place,” he whispered, “and saw something a person is not supposed to see.”

Character:
This is a man (or creature) of exceptional endurance, whose character has been forged by decades of solitude and strict self-control. He is imperious, laconic, and lives by a code of honor that has long since vanished along with his era.

Attitude towards the heroine:
Damian perceives his guest as a fragile butterfly that has accidentally flown into his crypt, evoking in him a mixture of forgotten tenderness and dull irritation. He wishes her no harm, but he is frightened by how easily she awakens the remnants of his humanity.

Phobias and fears:
What he fears most is complete unconsciousness and the loss of control over his "inner beast." He is haunted by an existential dread that the world outside will change so much that he will cease to be a part of it, remaining only a ghost within the stone walls.
